I've always said that White style is better suited for the winger position. I think he could do pretty well as a tenacious forecheck winger type who dig pucks into the corners , crash the net , throw his weight around ect. He does it to a certain extent as a center but he cannot focus entirely on it since he also has more defensive responsabilities.

Would certainly like to see him on the wing for a 5-10 games stretch

His defensive play is getting pretty good, but I agree he's being too cautious out there. He needs to learn how to balance thinking and playing with emotion. I wouldn't give up on him, if anything playing on the wing with a steady vet like Halpern in the middle will give him a little more freedom to be aggressive.

Yeah, considering how important the 4th line is to this team playing as center has been a learning process for him.

Hopefully he's not badly injured.

Really? Just be content that he didn't cost the Habs the customary second roun pick.

Yet - that's what they do? Why do they watch the games - all they do is whine about the Habs. My greatest wish is that we win cup #25 this year - so their ****ing heads explode!

Always liked Jeff. He's good defensively, very good on the PK, has tons of experience, decent speed, and great on the faceoff dot.

By the way, L'Antichambre was clearly for picking up Halpern so I don't know what some of you are talking about. Both Carbo and Darche wanted the Habs to get Halpern.

I liked what Carbo said yesterday: when you're in Game 5 of the playoffs, with two mins left on the clock, leading by one, with a faceoff in your own zone, you wish you had some one like Halpern to win you that faceoff draw.

The Rangers talked about him being waived for a good 10-15 pages too

Rangers fans are on Pg-21 of the Halpern thread.

Most of their fans were surprised he was put on waivers and considered him a solid 4th line C. By all accounts, Bergevin did well. Welcome back, Jeff, and welcome to our PK and FO problems.

Extremely happy! We've had a string of excellent players that were let go too early, Halpern, Domenick Moore, etc. Glad to see Halpern back, didn't want him to leave in the first place.

Agreed, Halpern looked done to me too, and I liked our makeup in the bottom 6 already, but there is no risk involved so I'm fine with it.

I was hoping the Habs would be able to acquire Boyd Gordon from PHX at the deadline. Upcoming UFA, low contract, RH faceoff specialist, and good PKer. Halpern is an older version of that and never cost any assets. Good pickup.

I thought he was good in his stint here until Martin started over using him. I remember him playing on Plek's wing for a bit and thinking WTF.

For those complaining about the toughness aspect... this covers some needs the team has. The need for toughness and fighting is not to be filled by the C position. IF MB gets that aspect it will be to replace Armstrong. The #12 forward in the lineup each night in ice time.

No problem with this. Though, there's a WHOLE LOT of selling coming in the near days and weeks...let's hope that hiring won't satisfy us....But Halpern himself? No problem for the rest of the year. That's what great about Bergevin so far....you get somebody useful and you give....nothing. Not like the ex-management we had....

If Halpern was suited up right now and playing in this game, we would be winning 6-2.

He is that good.

If Halpern does not get 22 minutes in his first game, I might be slightly upset or at least annoyed.

Go Halpern Go!!!!!!

We'd have more goals with Parros.

I'm curious to see how he keeps up with the younger, quicker Montreal team this time around.

Lol. I don't get it either. If he was winning 86% I might understand all this love. But 56%......?

I'd be guessing the end of Moen. Perhaps in a trade deadline package deal. Perhaps not.

Sounds like you have a pretty good, well reasoned handle on why some like this waiver claim.

Halpern is replacing either White or Moen now? God help us if this is true, and if management is thinking along this wavelength.

Moen has value this time of year
We have a glut of 4th liners
Moen has arguably been made redundant by Dumont or if White is switched to the wing.
I like depth as much as the next guy but not on the 4th line.
