Chuck, do you think the Leafs are making the playoffs this year?

I certainly don't think they're going to keel over and die like last year.

They're up for the fight and they'll be in the thick of things right until the end.

Am I willing to bet my life savings they're playoff bound? Absolutely not! lol

But I do think/hope they make it in a 6th, 7th and 8th seed.

These guys learned a tough lesson last year, and really matured from the previous situation.

Can't see them letting it happen again.

Without another playmaking centerman and a defenceman who can play with Phaneuf we're slowing heading towards collapse.

I have little faith the Leafs make it into the playoffs. They need a true #1 goaltender (Reimer/Scrivens are both capable backups), they need a #1 centre and/or a #2 centre with size/grit, (I like Chuck's idea of Brooks Laiche), and a big winger with size/grit (and youth!). All this while trading the likes of Grabbo, Liles, Komi, Connelly, at the very least. Thats allot of work to be a legit playoff team in my opinion!

Leafs really need to nail down that 6th spot if they have any chance to win a round.

I'd love to see a Leafs - Jets first round. Would be wild with those Jets fans.

I'm really hoping we don't meet the Habs in the playoffs this year. I don't think I could handle them beating us. Although we've handled them pretty nicely this year, they're a different team since receiving that beat down by the Leafs. They could make some noise this year, and I don't want the Leafs to be one of the teams they steamroll.

That'd be such an intense playoff series, Jets and Leafs. MTS Centre would be ridiculous and the ACC really ramps up in energy when the playoffs begin.

Hey Chuck small question if you don't mind.

Would defense be the main thing DN looks to add to before or at the deadline?

And if it is, Could we see him circle back to his old buddy from Vancouver in Tambellini and bid on Smid?

the problem with FA centers this year is that we are in the same situation with Bozak as we were with grabo.

Having to pay him too much to keep him because there is not a lot out there

Don't want Ribeiro either, I'd be interested in Roy/Clowe if they come cheap. Both of them have been sub-par this season

Once you make the playoffs regular season statistics and play mean absolutely nothing... IMO the Leafs are the team to fear as a 1st round opponent in a 7 game series for many reasons one of which the city will be in a buzz it hasn't had for many years. That buzz will go directly to the players something they don't get during the regular season from the morgue of building it is during the regular season.

2nd this team has depth in the goal scoring department... in a playoff series too often it's not the stars that make the difference it's the depth guys like the Bozak's and MacArthur's that people are willing to trade for futures that make the difference with timely goals.

Just let this team make the playoffs and to be honest I want Pittsburgh in the 1st round. All the pressure would be on them.

I think it is safe to say that DN's main fous is finding Dion Phaneuf a right handed partner.

They are quite intrigued by the work Liles has done on the right side with Gardiner and may want to see a few more games before breaking that pairing up in any manner.

Which means to me Gunnarsson may be the odd man out if the right package presents itself.

Could Gunnarssom be the reason Armstrong extended his stay in Toronto after the meetings?

He certainly fits the criteria.

Something around Grabo+Scrivens for Luongo + rights to Lapierre at the draft

Gunnar for a draft pick (2nd rd pick?)

Sign Derek Roy and Ryan Clowe

Lupul-Roy-Kessel
JVR-Kadri-Frattin
Kulemin-McClemment-Clowe
Komarov-Lapierre-Orr/McLaren/Tough guy

Phaneuf-Rielly
Liles-Gards
Fraser-Franson

Luongo
Reimer

Id prefer something around Grabo and Hiller, but not sure if the Ducks would want Grabo's contract

Pietrangelo
Shattenkirk
Polak.

Those are the RD on St Louis.

What are the chances we could get Shattenkirk cause Id assume Pietrangelo is untouchable. I am guessing very unlikely, but for some reason I just feel like we might get him out of nothing but my gut feeling.

Kulemin + Gunnarsson + 1st/2nd? Too much?

they won't get rid of shatter, if anything we'd be looking at polak or elliot.

I could see a simple hockey trade happening. Gunnarsson for Polak straight swap.

I wouldn't mind that trade, but I don't see STL trading him. Polak and Russel are a good third pairing for them

I don't think Polak is capable of playing shutdown mins with Phaneuf. He will be exposed.

Would anyone here be in favour of Brian Campbell if Florida retained salary/cap?

HNiC rumoured Florida might be willing to do that

If Phoenix falls out of the PO picture, I think Michalek will be a prime target.

I also have a feeling Nonis is looking into Bouwmester.

All i know is he is 6' 5 and right handed. Is he any good? How do the rangers feel about him? What would it take to get him?

I get the feeling he won't be much better than Mark Fraser.

He looks like a much worse version of L.Schenn
