Next year with a team of Cousins, and additions like Alderson and Flanagan (with hopefully others), hoping that there is a chance that the AHL can turn it around. Not a big fan of Murray though, liked Patterson ALOT better. He prepared the kids alot better than Murray has. Now I like Cousins and Laughton, but I do think one has to be careful with HOW young the team is. You can't have a team with all 20-21-22 yr olds. Thats not a recipe to win. You need vets to teach the kids.
TO seems to have made the right move leaving Kadri in the A as long as they did.

It worked out because he was far away from Ron Wilson.

How much I wish Flanagan would turn into a Conacher type. That and the nice first rounder would be a great consolation prize for this horrendous season.

Kadri also acknowledged he had some things to work on, including possibly his attitude (depends on what you believe happened in TOR and some of the weird way players were coached).

Not all players have issues that get them AHL bound. AHL can be a benefit for others though, certainly.

Has anyone been watching Union? How has Ghostisbehere (sp) looked?

Cousins scored a goal tonight. Alderson assisted on it. SSM lost 4-2. They're now down 0-2 to Owen Sound in the series.

It will be interesting to see what their plans are for him after the tourny.

As in what? He looks good enough he might sign a contract and come up to the AHL at least?

I'd assume he'd be back at Union next year, right?

They already know what they're going to do with him. The tourny really has no bearing on the decision. It's just because he's a college player, we have to wait until his season's over to find out what the plan is.

Phantoms won 5-2 vs the CT Whale. Great game by Akeson, wouldn't mind seeing him get a call up if we trade Briere.

HARTFORD, Conn. — Friday afternoon, Adirondack Phantoms winger Jason Akeson said he was not terribly focused on the potential of penning his name in the team’s record book. Sure, Akeson was excited about it, but he cared more about helping his team picking up wins down the stretch.

Saturday night, Akeson went ahead and did both — on the same play.

He tallied a goal and two assists to become the team’s all-time scoring leader as Adirondack concluded a seven-game road trip with a 5-2 win over the Connecticut Whale at XL Center.

I'm just going by recent history here. I honestly think it could either way with Ghost next year. Flyers usually like to sign their guys ASAP. Union isn't exactly a powerhouse in college hockey so I could see Homer trying to get him in Adirondack for next year.

I hope that they let him return.

My wife is a Union alum, so I suppose I have a small bias here, but he seems like a player who would only benefit from playing another year in NCAA--to grow (physically) as well as to hone his defensive game.

He could also look forward to playing a pretty big role for the U.S. at the World Jrs.--EDIT: Nevermind, apparently he's not eligible.

I just don't see a ton of upside with him going to the AHL a year earlier than necessary.

He's a 93 so he's not eligible for the WJC's next year. It's 94's and up.

Yeah I wouldn't mind if he spent another year there.

Ah, ok. well, I'm not sure that makes a difference in his development, though I'll admit I'm disappointed.

I've gone back and forth. I'll just wait another week or so to see what happens. I can see both sides of the spectrum though.

If he stays at Union:
-He gets a chance to truly dominate at the collegiate level. He showed signs this year but had the typical ups and downs you would expect from a 19 year old.
-You hope he physically matures before jumping to the pro game.
-Maybe takes on a leadership role
-Saves a contract
-Gets another year on schooling

Turns pro:
-Get's a challenge
-Better suited for the pro game
-Would benefit from pro training and an AHL schedule
-Focus solely on hockey
-Potentially gives you that dynamic defenseman as a call-up

That's a fair breakdown, I think.

I think that the physical maturation and big role vs. professional coaching and training are the key issues.

For those more familiar with Adirondack than I, what sort of role could he be projected to play there?

Well there ain't much in his way as far as an opportunity to get ice time and develop. He would definitely be a 1st unit PP guy and depending on how much they want to shelter his PT 1st pairing minutes are available.

Bring Ghost to the AHL. He needs to be playing 80 games a year, not 40.

Phantons winning 4-2 after 2. McGinn, Dimmen, Noebels and Wellwood with goals. Akeson, Gustafsson, and Flanagan with assists. Also Akeson has broken ADK's points leader.
