Howland made that program relevant. Remember Lavin?
I thought he would be sacked following the drama of last year, but give him credit, UCLA was somewhat restored to relevance after a few years of struggling.
I remember reading the story last year about how the UCLA program was out of control. I remember reading about how Howland would allegedly only show up at game day, and have minimal contact with the players. It's been a while, but the allegations IIRC surrounded a player who is no longer with the team, and rampant drug use. If that's all true, you fire him then. Seems odd to keep him around, have him succeed, and then fire him now. I wouldn't have done it.
Anyway, good luck to UCLA, and hope they find someone as good as Howland.
