I'll put it simply.

The next 2 weeks will separate the wheat from the chaff on this team.

At this point the team will need to win approx 70% of its remaining games...shouldn't be a problem.

Yeah I agree, it seems too easy...must be a ruse.

Wild beat Sharks 2-0, Oilers remain 3 points back of 8th for now.

Mathematically possible.

But not probable.

True on both counts...

And a win today with a little (okay a lot) help elsewhere, regardless of how unlikely it is, would put us one point out of 8th tonight

When you look at how Columbus is playing... there is no excuse for us not eeking out an 8th spot. We are so much more talented. Happy hockey night.

I hope they make it. Just won't hang my hopes on it.

And it would be nice if the Oilers could catch a break and ice a relatively healthy team for a couple weeks in a row to have a better shot at some wins here.

It's not too much to ask is it?

The games are a lot more fun when they actually mean something

Columbus hasn't lost a game by more than a goal in their last 16 games. People can say all they want about them riding a hot goalie and having limited talent... but that team is working their ***** off and is competitive every single game.

Oilers can only hope to get to that level. Look at Phoenix in the past as another example... it takes hard work and consistency to lock up a playoff spot... more so that supposed superior talent.

Oilers just need to up their level of desire to actually beat teams every single night and not just go through the motions by letting their skills and talent try and win games... it's just not enough.

I agree, but talent and hard work are two different things.

Columbus works their tails off. There was a great interview with John Davidson about their culture a few weeks back on Gregor.

Looking at Columbus roster, they look a lot like the Oilers of the MacT era. Hardly any stars there, but a lot of hard-working, two-way players who can grind the games. I would not be surprised if they make play-offs and upset one of the favorites on top of that.

I wish we had some of the Kings players. God these guys are downright dominant on the boards.

We are finally starting to develop some of those guys. I'd argue Harti is as good as just about anyone down low

Good news! The Oilers just signed Ewanyk from the Kings to a 3-year deal.

Unfortunately he can never seem to make the pass that keeps the cycle going after he does all of that work by himself

I really don't think Columbus is going to keep this up. They've played 19 home games already, meaning they have only 5 home games left and 12 on the road. And their road record is brutal.

dallas up 4-0

Looking to take over the final playoff spot.

If they win this game, they're at 33 points with 2 more games played, and we sit at 29.

We need to win these next two in regulation to keep pace with them, and tie them for 8th.

This game is just as or even more important than the San Jose game. Would like to see a bit more desperation and desire to win this game than against the Sharks.

Sure would be nice if we had RNH for these important games.

So when (or if) we lose this game against the blues does that kill remaining playoff hopes?
We'd need to win what like 10 or 11 of 18 remaining games

A must win game, and we get shutout. So I'd say we can kill this thread already.

Wanted to see mr clutch in playoffs this year.

Teams needs to go 10-5-3 inorder to have a 42.0% chance to make it into the playoffs.

This team is a bunch of losers.

A bunch of washed up vets, being kept afloat by these kids who have no place leading a team yet.

If there was any game where our veterans need to show the kids what a playoff push is like, and what it takes to win, it was this one.

This team needs a major overhaul now.

Enough of players like smyth, petrel, and Belanger who's only positives are that they are so bad offensively they're assumed to be good on defence.

We need a supporting cast that can support the young stars were developing, not anchor them down.

Pathetic...
