Long Island boy. Is he left or right defense?

I can't blame them...seeing as there will be no spring in NY this year. Just an extended winters.

With a cap hit of $6.6 million through next season, he could help any team that wants to give its power play a boost. The Canadiens and Flyers were interested in Boyle last summer and the Rangers have been sniffing around.

Boyle isn't just a strong presence on the ice, he brings leadership in the dressing room. He's a big commitment financially, but could be worth the money, especially with a Rangers power play that has been putrid.

GM Glen Sather has been itching to make a move to bring in an impact player. Boyle is the kind of defenceman who can make a big hit. The Sharks really need to decide if they want to take a stab at their core.

He's one of the few pure PWF prospects in the game and has a decent skillset.

Take the Gaborik/LA speculation to the trade speculation thread. It's not even a strong rumour, Bernstein threw it out there and he's not a hugely reliable source.

Going to say it now.

No matter the acquisition, it will NOT change what ails this team.

As long as there is no effort to get the puck to the middle of the ice, in the slot and as long as we continue to play the wall and force the issue below the goal line, we can get Ribiero and Iginla and out scoring will still be an issue in the sense that we need to develope a system that gets the puck to the net and not behind it.

Dan Boyle MAY help our PP if guys move.

Dan Boyle will NOT help our PP if guys are not moving.

The majority of our problems are systemic, not the players playing the system.

Agreed. Restructuring our bottom six or addressing some key holes is not going to turn this whole thing around. It may allow for better results in the short term. But, in the long term, the system is not going to be sustainable for a winning a cup.

The problems run far deeper at this point..

**** Yea......everyone who is saying this isn't a System/Torts issue is plain blind and in denial. We could have Malkin and Crosby here and they would struggle after being infected with Torts mindless system

It is not a personnel issue with this team (though we can always use an upgrade in many spots, who doesn't?). It is Torts, Sullivan, and Co.

Gaborik has scored 40 goals twice under Tortorella. Richards had a productive offensive season last year.

Last season, the Rangers were 11th in GPG. This year, they're 28th in GPG. Gaborik and Richards are on pace for 40 points over an 82 game schedule apiece. Tortorella has not had a great year, coaching wise - that, I think, we can all agree on. That said, the blame shouldn't be place solely on him. Gaborik and Richards underperforming, and Sather failing to replace the depth that was lost this offseason are two HUGE reasons for this team's lack of success.

Given Gabs, salary history (what would a team have to pay him to resign?) in addition to his lack of offensive production, can the Rangers obtain any real value in a trade? Sure, I would kick the tires hoping some GM believes Gabs wasn't used properly in NY. Is he being shopped? Probably. I'm just not sure there is much value currently in moving him.
Come on dude! He's having a bad season--actually his first yet considering he was hurt in '11, and still not bad. Last season was a near eclipse of 2010, which was his career season.

And you think he wouldn't return much of value??? He's an ELITE NHL scorer . It'd be retarded to trade him now when his value is diminished (albeit minimally, given his stature), when it would be better to deal him at the draft or next season's deadline.

Even still go ahead, trade him. But don't think for a second he won't be a difference-maker on most team's for 4-5 more years--he's not deteriorating.

Deal coming. Gabby not being shopped. Top 6, coach all get a pass based on no training camp cluster f half season.

I find it appalling that fans are clamoring to replace an underperforming 40 goal scorer who looks to be regaining his form for depth players that could be had for little or nothing in the off season.

This team has some glaring problems and even less depth now. Halpern was more valuable than Powe and Bickel, as well as Asham (jury is still out)
We need real bottom 6 help and guys who can play the center position on the third line. We have no chemistry whatsoever aside from our second line ( which should be our first at this point)

Hagelin-Stepan-Nash/Callahan
Nash/Kreider-Broken Beaver- Gaborik
Kreider/Pyatt-Miller-Powe? Boyle ( one of the worst third lines in the NHL)
Haley-Boyle? Powe?/Asham ( horrible 4th line)

I would rather have a 37 year old Halpern than a Powe, Bickel, or Boyle

Now we see the mistakes Glen made over the summer letting our glue go.

Imagine this

Hagelin-Richards-Nash
Kreider-Stepan-Gaborik
Fedotenko-Mitchell-Prust/Pyatt
Prust/Pyatt-Boyle-Asham

Instead we have to rush a kid who is a turnover machine in Miller,
Run with 2 4th line centers, 1 on the third line and one on the 4th.
Have a nursing home on the fourth line (aside from Haley)

And now we are bringing in friggin Newbury!!? All out of that glimmer of hope that he ignites Kreider's game....a disaster in the making. this is not a Mitchell/Hagelin situation, this is a 30 year old career AHLer who will never sniff a full time job in the NHL.

So even if Nash, or Gaborik does score a pretty goal on an individual move, we have a deeper underlying problem on our roster. Get well soon Glenn, we are hoping you will fix this mess in our bottom 6.
