Best part about the Halpern claim, costs nothing but salary!

Great teams are not built with role players, that is just media propaganda. Moen didn't win the cup for the Ducks, Niedermeyer did. Talbot didn't win the cup for the Pens, Malkin did, contrary to what the media says.

If the Habs are to genuinely improve, they will need to make a trade for an impact forward. Chris Stewart, Jaromir Jagr, etc.
With Ryder Pacioretty and Gallagher without mention Galchenyuk and Gionta we do have a good top 6 we need depth for our defensive liability and puck possesion .... the actual market will cost too much to get an upgrade without taking our future. We need a minor adjustement not a big splash move. Do we?

Mister Game 7 Talbot give the Pens the chance to continu that far ... its all about the winning goal ... not how many and who score ... Both Malkin and Talbot make the cup a possibility.

Every acquisition of player that can't fight is questionable

every detail is questionable but the perspective can be different ... goon team vs speedster team ... where you see key players i look to puck possession ... remember the Milwaukie Brewers ?!

i got some of the worst ever lately but i don't mind about! i look about money and other aspect that can change between now and the next 3 year. Another 1.983 of freeing $ is someting that can't play but will pay in a near future ...

No you're not.

Salary cap is not, and will never be an issue for the Canadiens. it's pretty clear that Bergevin know how to manage the salary cap.

Doing bad trade and giving away asset on waiver is probably not a good idea...but hey...you don't mind ! Hopefully for us, Bergevin do mind.

They lost we all know that, but we can win we just need to fufill the chemistry to the summum and that Michel Therrien can do it. I do have confidence in the actual top 6. Are we going to win this year ; maybe. but we need to look next year too.

Bourque is sign till 2017 and I don't think he will be the superstar. Diaz is good but he won't be here for long enough. We need a playoff push trade without taking too much of our future (wich louis leblanc is no longer a key part) to give the experience to our young core.

you guys dream for a Clarkson Clowe or even an upgrade where the cup windows contending is not yet open and you can sign them in the summer ... we still have 1 year before pretending to be near.

Having that said you need to chek foward the future to see a trade reasoning :

Pacioretty DD Gallagher
++++ Plekanec Gionta
Galchenyuk Eller ++++
Prust Dumont Talbot
Moen

Subban Gorges
Markov Emelin
Bouillon Tinordi
Gervais +++++

Price
+++++

players to go : Halpern Ryder Amstrong White, Kaberle(Buy out) Weber, Budaj

We cand bring Tokarski and give him a back up spot chance. Markov and Gionta will be in final year contract so their spot will also be in limbo for a rookie like Ellis, Beaulieu, Collberg, Bournival, etc.

This summer we will have to make decision mainly on 1 left winger, 1 right winger and a right d-man with a 6,811 projected free cap if we put another 1.983 + 4.250 (kaberle) we will have 13.044 for those 3 spot and 2 rfa (Dumont and Tokarski : at approxmimatly 1,3 cost) wich mean 11,744 for a top 6 left wing, a top nine right wing and a number 7-8 d-man.

So let's play a projection game for next year then :

Dumont receive 0.600 for 2 years
Tokarski receive 0.700 for 2 years

We sign :
Chris Higgins 2.250 2 years
David Clarkson 4.250 for 4 years
Mike Lundin 0.750 for 1 year

so we pay 1.3 (rfa) + 7.250 (ufa) to have a final 3.194 cap space on the cap hit

Pacioretty DD Gallagher
Higgins Plekanec Clarkson
Galchenyuk Eller Gionta
then in 2014 we all hope a Collberg instead of Gionta
Prust Dumont Talbot
Moen

Subban Gorges
Markov Emelin
Bouillon Tinordi
Gervais Lundin

Price
Tokarski

I'm thinking there's a real possibility that one of Leblanc or Kristo could fill in one of the spots in the top 9. Despite Leblanc's sub-par season both of these prospects are nearly NHL ready or ready for extended stays with the big club. Promoting from within the organization seems like a logical way to replace Ryder's skill set.

Clarkson isn't leaving the Devils for less than $5 million, I agree he would be a great addition but it would be an overpayment.

I like the Clarkson part, but Tokarski is nowhere near ready to be a full-time backup yet. Also, there are many players I'd take on this team as a 7th defenseman over Lundin. Smid, Babchuk, Regehr are unrestricted free agents by the end of the year and are far more interesting than Lundin. As for Higgins... not sure we need a question mark from the Gainey era.

Any opinions on a trade involving Iginla for Gionta? Would change the landscape a bit going into the playoffs, and I'd wager Montreal would be among the most welcoming Canadian, Eastern conference cities. Leadership for leadership so neither team is left with a vacuum as a consequence, either. I'd try to sell Calgary on cap savings as well, or some such. Interesting possibilities.

You need to give Calgary the best package in order to get Iginla.

Right, a package involving Iginla for Gionta. But is it worth considering in the first place, is where I was going.

It feels dirty to trade our captain when we are a contender.

A fair deal might be Gionta, Beaulieu or Tinordi, and a 1st. I'm not sure that would be better than what Pittsburgh and Boston are going to offer though.

Like I've said before, I think Marc Stuart would be a good short term pickup. Then evaluate his play from there.

3 moves...and some playerscoming back off IR

Trade for Cody Mcleod. (White + 3rd? )

Sign ncaa ufa Laganierre and our own Kristo. We lack quality forwards at the AHL level, or nearly NHL ready.

Prust, Bourque and Diaz addthe size, grit and talent we need. 2 top 9 fwds and a top4 d pp specialist.

No need for massive moves or deals. This team seems to be moving along well and small tweeks to slowly add some size is needed. Adding some for this playoffs is good (Mcleod)but wholesale changes arent needed.
