Both of those GM's have been to the ECF or SCF in the last 3 years, so I dont really understand your point, Tex.

The only thing that deserves a face palm is your constant defense of George.

We have limited resources to address these needs...you want to bring someone in who doesn't address the priorities, brings more of what we already have (bottom 6 forwards like Hendricks/Chimera/Beagle/Ward/Laich/Brouwer/etc etc) and has badmouthed the Caps???

And you want to give up young assets and absorb that contract to boot?

Sorry. Couldn't disagree more.

The limited resources (cap space/roster spots/young assets) should be used for our need priorities IMO

I think they were talking Chimera for Talbot. Salaries are a wash, and they bring bottom 6 play.

With this Caps team? I'd rather Talbot. We need the anger he brings, and we know he is as playoff tested as anyone (certainly is not worse than Chimera, and is *easily* arguably better).

This group of players needs a Talbot a lot more than it needs a Chimera.

Yes the flash for Ribeiro! That would be a good trade.

Maybe florida can add some prospect too.

I wouldn't mind getting flash back. Don't see much room for him though.

I'm thinking maybe the Caps need to make a hockey trade... Like Green for Cammalleri.
Johansson - Backstrom - Ovechkin
Cammalleri - Ribeiro - Brouwer
Chimera - Laich - Fehr
Hendricks - Beagle - Ward
Erskine - Carlson
Alzner - Kundratek
Orlov - Oleksy

Good part is: Cammalleri is good on the dot, so if GMGM is blown away by the Ribeiro offer, a couple of tweaks and we still have a respectable top-6.

Just no. Trade's horrible and that defense looks abysmal.

I think George missed the window to trade Green. He could have gotten a kings ransom not long ago. It would have required seeing in the playoffs that he was not nearly as effective, and injury prone.

Even half broken, I suspect he is of more use to us than what George can fetch. I think we will hold and see if he learns to take hits. He needs to learn to lean forward and take hits on his hips, brace up against the boards and watch the forechecker fall to the ice. He needs to protect himself much better overall. D men can take hits to make plays and still survive.

I do not think I have ever seen a player of such high skill have such a low level of self preservation. Teach him Oates.

Cam will help but our D needs help even with Green.

Here is how this will go down now with the last 2 wins. GMGM now thinks a playoff run can be made a we can go deep in the playoffs with a tweak at the deadline. He will make the tweak as usual with no improvement. This team might make the playoffs, but will not go deep. We will hold on to the assists which should be unloading (Ribero), so he will walk at then end of the year or GMGM will over pay him at his age and we will be stuck with him longer then we should. Same old story as a Caps fan.

the caps as buyers regularly trade assets for rentals that often walk for nothing at the end of the season. you get these players to building your team up for the playoff stretch and the playoffs. we never complain about that.

here though, for some reason two seasons in a row there is a chunk of caps fans, many the same iirc, that want the caps to do the opposite. the seller role is for teams out of the playoffs who trade off their pending ufa's for to get something to improve the team in the future.

playoff teams and teams with a legit shot at the playoffs dont sell. they dont sell their best players for damn sure.

if the trade ribeiro bunch are convinced that the caps are out of it and have no playoff shot, trading ribeiro makes perfect sense. i dont see that as the case.

with the number of 7 and 8 seeds that have made the finals in recent years, i would think fewer fans would buy into to the idea that just making the playoffs isnt a goal that can lead to something. particularly when you consider the caps abject failure as a top 2 seed in the playoffs.

Wonder what Rutherford's asking price would be for Joe Corvo.

Never was a fan of Flash when he was last here, however reacquiring him may not be as far fetched as we'd like to think.

Alan May the other night after the second win in Winnipeg remarked how strong the Capitals RW position was with Ovechkin, Brouwer, Fehr, and Ward playing on their respective lines. If Caps resign Ribeiro, Caps have the two top center positions signed up for some time. Where does this leave MAJO. Seems like the team has been moving him around forever trying to find a spot for him, centering different lines, playing forward positions on different lines and currently playing LW on the first line. Would not Flash a natural LW be a better choice than MAJO on that first line. Team's current LW are MAJO, Laich, Chimera and Hendricks.

If Ribeiro is resigned, I just don't see a position for MAJO on this team, he's definitely not a 3rd or 4th line center type and with Forsberg and Kuznetsov arriving within the next two seasons, I don't see him on the wings.

MAJO for Flash may not be out of the realm of possibilities.

What you think about the team's forwards/especially top-6 overall really depends on what you think of Johansson. He either fills a big hole or highlights one. He and Fleischmann are fairly similar players, though, particularly with similar flaws. I wouldn't make that trade right now. I think if they trade him, it's because they think that spot needs a different style of player.

I believe this to be the case too. I'm expecting a repeat of last year, no deals at all. I guess there is always a slim chance of something to happen, but I sure hope he doesn't deal any good prospects for rentals.

Flash and MAJO are definitely similar players and I complained about Flash when he was here for the same reasons I now complain about MAJO, not being physical enough, not that good along the boards or in the corner. However, LW is Flash's natural position not so much MAJO's. Both can dangle, though I'd say Flash being around longer has more dangle to his game. Flash is a known entity to this team and it's players to include those possible linemates of 19/8, besides no one's currently wearing #14 to the best of my knowledge.

Flash?

Really?

If we add anyone who makes this team softer my head will explode.
