I don't see what there is to disagree with. Everything he said is true. There is plenty of young talent on this team. Every single one of our under 30 players has shown some sort of brilliance for an extended period of time in the last two years. Give them more experience and they will be more consistant. I know we all hoped for more this season, but we're relying on two sophomores in Schenn and Couturier to give us the center depth that we need to compensate for the lack of talent on the back end. Not exactly this best situation for success this year, but as they mature, it will get better. The future is not bleak by any means. Take a look at Calgary, Florida, or Buffalo if you want to see bleak futures.

One of those things is not like the others, IMO.

J. Huberdeau
N. Bjugstad
D. Shore
D. Kulikov
A. Gudbranson
J. Markstrom

And then wildcards like Rocco Grimaldi Mike Matheson?

Even if he's a 40 point player, that's good value, and by all indication he has always been a strong lockerroom guy.

To your other point, there are plenty of teams that would love to trade places with the Flyers for the future. Giroux, Voracek, Schenn, Schenn, Simmonds, Couturier--all at or under 25.

Read, Coburn, Talbot, Mezsaros, and Grossmann are all also under 30. Hartnell is 30.

Among regulars, only Timonen, Briere, Fedotenko, Gagne, and Bryz are over 30--and Fedotenko and Gagne are UFAs.

This season has been a massive disappointment, but to say the future is bleak? I don't see it. Our farm system is thin, sure, but that's because the young talent that most teams hope will pan out is already in the NHL.
Agree on all counts. Briere would really look good on that Boston roster. Chiarelli's in the media complaining he can't find a scoring forward. Let's git'er done.

We have a great core of forwards, some solid D and some good character vets. There is no need to panic, it's a lost season. I guess they could prove me wrong and go on a 5 game streak to the deadline, but I don't see it.

Trade what you can, use the picks well. Sign some UFAs and college/jr FAs, come back next year ready to rock.

I would even argue Buffalo as well:

Marcus Foligno
Cody Hodgson
Tyler Ennis
Mark Pysyk
Tyler Myers
Mikhail Grigorenko
Zemgus Girgensons
Jake McCabe
Brayden McNabb

Not great but not exactly bleak.

Huberdeau-- yes.
Bjugstad-- Doesn't project to be a game breaker.
Shore-- Same as above.
Kulikov-- yes.
Gudbranson-- Still very, very raw. Very limited offensive upside. From what he's shown so far, he seems to project to a Coburn like player.
Markstrom-- He should be a solid goaltender.

I only see two potential high impact players. Everyone else projects to dime a dozen NHL players, imo. Florida's future is not bright at all. Most NHL teams boast comparable youngsters.

I think Buffalo's future is (much) brighter to be honest. Still bleak though. Neither of these teams have anything that other teams dont have.

Future is good. I agree. This teams needs some more experience for the prospects, better puck movement between the zones, and some tweaks. Let the high pedigree prospects put on some muscle and age. A PMD would be huge. This draft could go a long way to shoring up a weakness with the 1st rounder. Stinks they missed on Sustr and probably DeKeyser -- that would probably shrink the D problem. Ghost can't come along fast enough.

The core young players are a GM's dream. Looks how many young "untouchables" the Flyers have. The Phantoms can provide solid backend guys to round it out and once in awhile a pleasant surprise comes out of a callup. Seems like at least once per year.

Pretty great youth for a team that has had some drafts that were complete wastes and a few that were devoid of 1st and 2nds entirely. Granted, 2003's amazing draft was sacrificed to get some of it.

He is listed as "day to day" so he could be "better" tomorrow for a trade.

Oh no. What ever will we do without Briere to spark the offense? Might as well count this one in the loss column right now if Briere isn't playing.

I think this way, too. The Flyers must have the Iraqi Minister of Information on their PR staff. Maybe it's the whole Genesis day-as-day versus day-as-era debate. We've seen far too many players who were listed as out very briefly all of a sudden being out for weeks on end. I'll wait to hear more details from the crack Philadelphia sports cognizanti.

Briere day-to-day until trade? I don't think he'll be ready to Morrow.

I guess Rinaldo must have dodged him when Briere was trying to lean on him, right? (see accusations on the hobbit being too loose in practice for context)
