Wow, if you would have told me three months ago that the hockey team would still be alive at this point and the basketball team wouldn't? No chance.

Congrats to the Badgers on winning their first Broadmoor Cup since 1998. Very much deserved!

I saw most of this game (missed part of it because I was watching the ECAC Championship game, plus trying to follow what was happening in the Hockey East championship game).

What I did see of the game was an excellent all-around effort. Kerdiles was terrific in the game and definitely deserved the MVP. IMO, this was one of Rumpel's best games of the year. CC had some grade chances, especially in the 3rd period, but Rumpel made the saves that he needed to make.

I think the thing that most impressed me about the Badgers in the WCHA Final Five was how well the team, as a group, played on defense. It seemed like everyone was blocking shots and the forechecking was great and at times, relentless. It's also nice to see guys like Jefferson Dahl and the Littles chipping in with goals. As I'm sure you all know, at NCAA Tournament time, you want ALL of your guys getting their mojo going.

As for which regional they will end up in? My guess is they will end up going to the East regional in Providence and facing UMass-Lowell as their first opponent. If that is the case, the Badgers will definitely need to bring their "A" game and find a way to solve the River Hawks' red-hot goalie Connor Hellebuyck.

We shall see later this evening when the teams and brackets are announced.

I dont want to be a snob but the majority of the wcha teams would destroy all east coast teams besides boston college.

Don't sell UMass-Lowell short. They gave Miami fits in the NCAA Tournament last year and they're even better this year. Not saying that it's a guaranteed win for UML should they go up against Wisconsin (which BTW, I goofed on my last post...they'll likely be in the Northeast Regional in Manchester, not the East Regional in Providence. My bad, sorry about that). But Lowell isn't as weak as you might think.

I think the WCHA was the deepest conference this year and it reflects with the number of teams in the tournament (just wish they could have spread them out in the bracket better.) The W was 7-7-1 against ECAC and 9-8-1 against Hockey East which doesn't imply dominance.

It's anyone's game in the second season; Sparty won it all with maybe the 6th best talent in the pool, Bemidji and RIT rode hot streaks to the Frozen Four so you can never overlook someone....I don't even need to mention the Holy Cross incident. Lowell and Wisconsin look dead even on paper: strong D, good goaltending and similar numbers in terms of the top scorers. I do like Bucky's chances against anyone the way they are playing. Talk about peaking at the right time.

IMO, this is the best #1 vs. #4 matchup in the tourney. As you already mentioned the teams have many similarities and match up really well. I think it's going to come down to mental mistakes. Whichever team makes the fewest wins this matchup. I'm definitely looking forward to seeing this one.

Hooray. TWC Sports 32 picked up the game in the Milwaukee area on Friday. I'm switching from TWC to AT&T tomorrow so no game for me.

You should be able to catch it at a BW3 or other sports bar. I used to watch games at Hooligan's on the east side all the time.

I'm liking the team's chances of a deep run this year!

There should be a lot of bruises after this one with two strong defenses clashing. It's really anyone's game this year.

The #4 seed shouldn't deceive anyone; if Bucky had a mediocre start and went .500 it would put them with the elite teams in the NCAA in terms of wins, pairwise standings, etc. I think of the #4 seeds, the Badgers are the last one any team would hope to play in the first round.

On Wisconsin!

I doubt there is an online stream anywhere but does anyone know if there is at least somewhere online where I can listen to a radio feed?

I should mention I live in Canada so I can't listen on iHeart or watch on ESPN 3 or anything like that. Already tried those options.

Some of my personal observations from the game:

1) First off, congrats to UMass-Lowell. They were the team that wanted it more and played like it. Definitely deserved the win.

2) I don't know if any of you all noticed it, but this Badgers' team did NOT look like the Badgers team that won the Final Five. As I eluded to earlier, mistakes was what was going to decide this matchup. And the Badgers made a few of them, most notably on Shayne Thompson's goal. Wisconsin IMO also lacked the fire in their bellies that they had in the Final Five. Rumpel didn't look as confident either.

Bottom line is this: UMass-Lowell dictated the play and the pace for nearly the entire game. Yes, the Badgers managed to get one by Hellebuyck....but JUST one! Sorry guys, that's not gonna cut it in the NCAAs.

I firmly believe that had Wisconsin brought the same intensity and great all-around team effort to the NE regional that they did to the Final Five, the outcome might have been very different.

Now for the $64,000 question....

Does Kerdiles and Mersch come back next season?

I think you can count on Kerdiles coming back for another season. If he was looking for a reason to bolt, then I think he would have done it back when he was given that suspension.

I really hope the hockey program doesn't follow the lead of football and routinely schedule cupcake non-conference games.
