According to a lot of this board we should have hitched our wagon to Lindback.

I for one am very leery of a Nashville goalie. For the same reason I am leery of Phoenix goalies. Those pure defensive systems cover for a lot of goalie deficiencies.

I think Stevie Y hires Ruff. He cant afford to hire another rookie or his head will be on the platter. Plus both of them having significant experience in Hockey Canada (Ruff was an associate coach for the last Olympic team which Yzerman GM'ed) so im guessing they have a pretty good relationship already.

Eakins...

i wish MLSE would just slap a big big paycheck in his face and tell him to stay. Has Boudreau written all over him for a successful carrer

Let's not forget that the Bolts have a fairly successful AHL coach of their own, as well, and seems to have developped players in the minors, much like Eakins. An AHL title with Norfolk last year and is putting together another good season in Syracuse this year.

I would gather that he would be worth a look by the parent club Bolts, and for this reason would have somewhat of an advantage over other potential AHL candidates.

I believe they are going with a veteran coach, however. Ruff seems to fit the bill, and has a history with Stevie Y.

Everytime a coach gets fired why is everyone's first reaction Eakins? Wouldn't the first inclination be to go to your own organizations farm team (if wanting to get an AHL coach and promote within?) And there are some good NHL coaches out there too.

And didn't Eakins say he wanted to stay in Toronto?

Reports say that Iginla has submitted a list of 4 teams he will accept a trade too. The 4 teams are Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles and Pittsburgh.

Safe to say, the iginla sweepstakes has begun

I'd wager Lindy Ruff is going to be the coach of the Lightning.

If they wanted an 'unknown' coach they would choose Cooper over Eakins, no doubt.

It's time for them to re-tool, that group just hasn't done it.

Reminds me of the Beauch-Lupul/Gards trade

A neutral fan in the trade board thread says

"But I thought Gardiner was a good prospect?"

I lol'd
