The first deal is fine. Hurts to lose Pouliot but it is what it is. You have to give to get Iginla.

I don't see a sign and trade happening so I can't see that 2nd deal happening.

As a Flames fan, I feel the likelihood of Iginla signing with whoever he's traded to to be pretty high. It's less of a rental than people think.

Trading Iginla to Boston or Pittsburgh because they're in the East? Realignment means there really is no East/West. If Calgary doesn't want to trade him to a team they'll will have to face more than twice next season - only LA is in that category. Calgary would play only 2 games against Boston, Pittsburgh AND Chicago. So although destination from Calgary's perspective would be no different with Bos/Pit/Chi - I can't see him going to the Hawks because (1) it's doubtful they can afford him beyond this season so he would be a rental which reports say he doesn't want to be, and (2) he won't displace Kane or Hossa on RW so he would have to agree to play LW.

If I had to choose where he ends up (if not the Hawks) - my first choice would be Calgary (just stay there and don't improve a contender), but my second choice would be Boston. I would hate to see the LA get better and the thought of Kunitz-Crosby-Iginla is VERY scary.

He wants to go to a Cup contender, he's obviously going to sign with the team he gets traded to, he'd be pretty stupid to go back to Calgary

Some players' contracts will come off the books, sure, but you need to replace them. It looks like the Penguins have only 16 players already signed for next year. I doubt Iginla would sign for as little as $5 mil but even if he did, the rest of the roster would have to be scrounged up cheap.

Sorry, he is not available in this scenario.

The guy's 36...no way he deserves 7.5 like he does with his current contract, besides these GMs are smarter than us, they've obviously thought all of this out, so as of right now I wouldn't worry bout it....

Had 38 points last year, on-pace for another 38 point season on the 3rd line at $1.25 million (1.8 cap hit)... if he is gone, it would be because he takes more money elsewhere.

how about trading iggy to Dallas. I wonder how many times a GM acquires a player that he was traded for while he was playing. On the same team he was traded to no less.

Something around this package, tweaks could be made.
Because Iginla is just dying to play for the Caps.

I don't know how you can make that assumption. It will depend wholly on how much cap space the team he's traded to has going forward and on someone not coming along and offering him significantly more money. If he was traded to the Pens and they offered him $5MM for 2 years and another good team came along and offered him $7MM for 3 years I doubt he'd think twice about accepting the better offer, and I wouldn't blame him a bit.

The team acquiring Iginla has to assume that they are trading for a rental. Hope for the best, expect the worst.

I see Iginla's cap value around 5M, similar to what Doan got.

Only difference is, he'll take a slight discount to play on a contender, IMO. He's made his millions, he wants the Cup.

That's what I'm saying, anything above 5.25 and its an overpayment...

Iginla destinations according to RDS

Just saw on The Score that RDS is reporting that Iginla has told the Flames he would accept a trade to the Kings, Pens, Hawks or Bruins.

I preferred it when the Canucks were rumored. Hilarity ensued.

I'm talking about the west to win a cup I'm not talking about the teams that are in the hunt for iggy. I still think the west would win.

I don't think that iggy would go to a team to be a mentor, I think that ship has sailed. I think he wants tobbe a part of a team with a strong knit core with players and a coach he knows and like, like the kings. But if he does go to the east then it should be Boston. But Still think he'd have the most easiest adjustment with the kings.

Do the Flames bench Iginla, to avoid potential injury?

I think they have decided not to trade him. I think they will feel they are going to compete for 8th until the end.

Considering he has played 1217 out of a possible 1259 career games, and every possible game in the past 6 seasons, I don't think that is much of a concern.
