Guess his system isn't the new way. He's not the biggest issue there, though.

Darren Dreger @DarrenDreger

Source say the Pens and Stars have a trade in place for Brendan Morrow. However, he has yet to waive no trade clause.

I believe Joe Morrow would go to Dallas as part of the deal for Brendan Morrow.

Bob McKenzie ‏@TSNBobMcKenzie

DAL F Brenden Morrow is currently discussing with his agent the Stars' request to waive his NTC to be moved to PIT.
Interesting.

If Morrow can return Joe Morrow, then Goc can definitely return a 2nd or a very good prospect. I think Goc is definitely getting moved.

Smithson or another faceoff specialist is FA. It seems a waste, particularly of money, to have Matthias or Goc on the 4th line. Matthias is going to get a raise.

Oh, this season? Well, it's actually a good thing if we have AHL fodder filling out our roster. Helps the tank.

If you can get a 2nd for him, fine.
But it's not a waste to have Goc on the 4th line. He's pretty cheap so it's not hurting anything.

The waste of money is on our scoring lines, particularly the "1st line." We're paying an absurd amount of money for two wingers who are only 1st liners on this mediocre team.

Versteeg is a complete waste of money. Horrible contract. Jovo, horrible contract. Upshall, horrible contract. Kopecky and Bergie are a bit expensive but that's what happens in free agency.

Flash is a 50-60 point guy. He's got a fair contract at 4.5 million. If you wanted a legitimate first line guy he's going to cost probably 6.5/7 million a season, at least in free agency and that's on the low end if you compare it to what Getzlaf and Perry just signed for.

Or you can draft one/trade for one.

4.5 for a one-dimensional, floating powerplay specialist is overpayment. Ask any Capitals fan that's seen him plenty of times before or any general hockey fan and they'd say the same things.

This team shouldn't be paying a one-dimensional 50-point forward 4.5. He only put up 61 last year because he got increased time that he'd never get playing for a good team.

After the hot stretch of 25-30 games, that Fleischmann-Weiss-Versteeg line did a whole lot of nothing last year. Both he and Versteeg are overrated.

I wonder if we could get another 1st for Flash. I'd do it in a heartbeat.

I think your analysis is pretty on point on Flash but a bit harsh. He's the best finisher on our team and is good for 20+ goals, stays healthy, and is a key piece on our PP which was a huge part of our success last season. He's somewhat one dimensional but we need offense.

A first seems completely within reason. I wouldn't give him up for that though.

It's not like we can spend his money better. There isn't much we can go after. He's not close to the worst contract either. Probably overpaid by 500K.

How much **** did we take from people last year about that? Tired of the Hypocrisy.

Have to disagree with this. For example, Filppula is a responsible 2-way player and I bet if you gave him the same minutes Flash had last year he'd be close to similar stats. The difference is Filppula can play the other end too.

Not saying Filppula would be worth the money either, if he's really looking for 4+.

Versteeg really needs to go thou. Don't even care about the return that much, as long as that 4.4 million bum is off the roster for good.

We need to pinch any penny we can get, so having Goc or Matthias on the 4th line is not a wise allocation of funds to me. First off, whoever is on the 4th line is going to have poor numbers.

I agree that we have a lot of wasted money on our "1st line", and I'd love to trade one of those guys, if not at the deadline then perhaps at the draft. Then we'd have a lot of money to play with in free agency. So saving money anywhere we can is a smart thing to do.

Remember, we have to(at least I would like to) buy out Upshall and Clemmer and replace them too. Plus several of our significant players might be getting raises(Matthias, Weiss, Mueller, Markstrom).

I never understood why fans were happy with the Upshall signing. His contract is awful relative to his actual contributions. Intangibles don't merit that contract.

Flash is what he is. On a good team where he isn't expected to be the guy, he provides very useful complimentary scoring. It's not really fair to judge him in the situation he finds himself. He's not worth the money we pay him, but then we've put him in an impossible position to succeed.

Filppula would be a good signing, although again inspite of flashes, he isn't a player you build offense around. Excellent complimentary forward.

Florida will always have this problem as long as the situation remains the same. Being a bad team, we have to overpay to acquire players who aren't capable of running NHL offensive systems by themselves. Thus, we crab on them inspite of a situation where it's really hard to succeed in.

The only way to break this cycle is to draft well. Our success relies on our scouts. It's really as simple as that.

Pens fans aren't going to like this once they see Murray play. A total steal by Doug Wilson.
