Every one of those teams is within 2 points of the Caps in the standings.

Setting up perfectly for the non-committal deadline with no acquisitions and no sales.
If they can play the way they have the last two games, there is no reason at all the Caps cant win 4 out of 5 of those games. Its a stretch, but I seriously feel like the team is clicking now.

FWIW

@DarrenDreger Source say Pens and Stars have a trade in place for Brendan Morrow. However, he has yet to waive no trade clause.

Hopefully it involves some high-end prospects/picks.

Don't think Morrow has enough left to give them anything. Knuble-esque decline.

Agreed, glad GMGM can't acquire him now bc I wouldn't have been in favor of that acquisition.

@DarrenDreger: I believe Joe Morrow would go to Dallas as part of the deal for Brendan Morrow.

It's going to be a hell of a seller's market.

A year ago, I would have been for taking the chance, thinking he'd just had an off year and could re-kindle his game. He might look even worse this year.

Yup. Thought the Knuble analogy was fitting bc it wasn't just one aspect of his game, his legs per se .... but everything, hands, physicality and overall speed. Poof.

Only other side of that coin is the established chemistry with Ribeiro, were they to hold onto him for some reason. But I agree, Morrow's not what he used to be.

Granted, he's like, what, 3rd or 4th on the Pens' D prospect depth chart? But yeah, if that's what the market is going to end up being like for forwards, man...

No, he's their top defensive prospect.

Higher than Pouliot and Maatta (and Dumoulin and Harrington and...)? Hasn't he been having an iffy year in the A?

Regardless, finding a team that has that kind of depth in dealing whatever type of prospect is a way to get better than average quality as a return, I imagine. Easy to get a very good prospect off a team that has 2 or 3 guys to replace him in the pool.

I thought he's been doing well, but it seems to be a consensus between the Pens fans that he's their #1... (well that might change now that he's been traded, obviously )

But you're right, they do have the depth to move him... I just think they should have traded a lower prospect like Dumoulin or Harrington instead... especially since Morrow is the only Offensive PP QB type out of the bunch.

Yeah, Pouliot is likely their top D prospect as far as upside goes and Harrington/Maatta may project a little more safely. Nonetheless that's a quality blueline prospect (and former first rounder) for a fringe second/third liner at this point. It's maybe a little more dicey given that they don't have Letang locked up long-term yet.

Iginla to LA is my guess. The Sutter factor.

I wonder if LA will even want Iginla... he might actually make their possession game worse, given where his play currently is (granted, they're the best in the league at it, they could live with it if they like everything else he brings).

This is just going to ensure that the Caps win their next few games and don't sell at the deadline. Just you watch.

Oh, I'm well aware. Then they'll drop their first 4 after the deadline.

If that really is what grinders are going for GMGM gotta be all over that.

Imagine getting a 1st+ value for Laich, Brouwer and Ribeiro, 2nd+ for Ward and 2 for Chimera. We'd be set for a decade.

J. Morrow and 5th for B. Morrow and 3rd...

Pens board might be going crazy.
