Pitt gets B. Morrow and a 3rd-round pick 2013 in exchange Dallas gets prospects Joe Morrow and a 5th-round pick 2013

Makes a little more sense with the picks, but still...

I'm going with the playoff picture not favourable for us right now. Not because of how many points we are behind, but because of how many teams are still in front.

If a team like Pittsburgh is willing to trade Morrow for an ageing guy like Brendan Morrow, we should use this as the opportunity for a final retooling.

Move guys like Hemsky, Smyth, Whitney, and get more picks and prospects than they are worth. Use those picks (and maybe some prospects) this summer, in what is a very deep draft, to buy some useful roster players.

I think since the start of this rebuild, this trade deadline will be a sellers market at its finest, while the draft will be a buyers market (for those who have the assets) finest. I think we can really take advantage of that.

Hell NO! Hemsky for a tough top 6 winger, a top 4 d man, or a #1 goalie. Or at least a current NHL player who looks like they'll develop into one of those 3, which Bernier is not.

At this point, probably. Hemsky's looked awesome this year at times, but the mix is just not good. They need to bring in guys that can compete now and have the upside to develop some offensive skills.

I think Smyth, Hemsky, Belanger, maybe Jones, all could be moved, and probably should be. Jones and Hemsky because they can probably help bring in something they need, and the others because they're just bad hockey players at this point.

Morrow for Morrow is an amusing 'headline' trade, but I'll take Kari Takko for Bruce Bell in '90. Yes, the NHL had a Takko Bell trade.

Moral of the story is Pittsburgh has a limited window to win. With Malkin and Letang becoming UFA in 2014, with Kunitz, Martin and Orpik not getting any younger, the time to win is now.
B.Morrow is a solid veteran with intangibles who's upgrade on Dupuis and Cooke in their top 6.
J.Morrow was Pittsburgh's version of Klefbom--he could end up being a top pairing defenseman in 3-4 years or he may never become an impact player in the NHL.

Shero took the risk. Time will tell if it was the right move.

Would definitely do this^

Wow Pittsburgh got absolutely FLEECED! Maybe paying with Crosby or Malkin can get him going again. When we played Dallas this year he looked as slow as Smyth out there.

Also who is this DeKeyser kid? Anyone got a scouting report on him?

Everyone keeps telling me the Penguins are stacked with quality defensive prospects. How is this possible, they haven't been drafting 1st overall the last three years.

But seriously, if their goaltending/defense is as bad as last years playoffs, they still wont get anything done. No faith in Fleury.

I agree, this team needs to upgrade their support players a ton.

I don't really know a whole lot about USA hockey but from what I've read he's a big 6'3" defenceman who is solid and knows his role. Won't put up a lot of points but gets the job done. Anyone actually watch him?

Now if the rumors of Ovi willing or wanting to be traded are true, would you be willing to trade one of the big 4, plus a couple of firsts for him with the idea being that maybe Yakupov's exuberance can rub off on him and bring him back to "Old Ovie"?

I would maybe trade Eberle+ for him. He was my favorite player since entering the lead. But his cap hit would kill this team.

Ovi is still good but he's not going to return to his old form. He has lost some of his speed and burst that made him special. Giving up one of the big 4 and a couple 1st's would be bad for us.

What wing is he more comfortable playing?

I knew that Morrow was doing poor this year but I didn't realize how poor. Yikes. The Penguins really paid a premium for a player on his last legs.

I'd rather have Malkin, if possible, but you would have to give up RNH+.

btw, I would make the trade.

I don't want Ovechkin on this team. He's the type of player I'd be willing to move to get the pieces I need to build a championship team.

If we're dealing away any of the Fab 4 up front it better be for a more well rounded player that will buy into the team concept.

Ovechkin's flashiness and skill is fun to watch but that's about it. I just don't see my team winning with players like him.

Ovechkin's cap hit is just too much, he will mess with what we are trying to build here. I'm also scared of what he would cost.
