As of now, #Flyers do NOT plan to make a pitch for D-men Jay Bouwmeester or Dan Boyle, I'm told.

This is the absolute stupidest proposal I've ever seen in my life.

#1: Even if you finish with the worst record in the league and the closest team is like 20 points away from you, YOU STILL ONLY HAVE A 25% CHANCE OF ENDING UP WITH THE #1 OVERALL PICK

#2: LA is making the playoffs. The Rangers are a fringe team. Columbus is a fringe team. It's likely that all 3 picks you acquire are outside the top 10.

#3: No team in the world is taking two non-top 10 picks for Drouin, MacKinnon, or Jones.

So basically, you'd trade Giroux for:
-John Moore
- 11th-15th overall
-15th-30th overall
-15th-30th overall

and with your own pick in this hypothetical, we're still not really worse than Florida, so we end up finishing 2nd worst and have an 80%+ chance of selecting 3rd overall, with an 18% or so chance that we strike gold and win the lottery. Even if you assume we're worse than Florida (we're not), you still end up with only a 25% chance at Seth Jones.

This is horrible.

They were one of the cup favorites headed into the year. Much like the Flyers the year they were cup favorites, the Kings struggled early and then came back late in the yr.
I can cite to a number of teams. Last five conference finals:

2012: 8 vs. 3 and 6 vs. 1
2011: 5 vs. 3 and 1 vs. 2
2010: 8 vs. 7 and 1 vs. 2
2009: 6 vs. 4 and 4 vs. 2
2008: 6 vs. 2 and 5 vs. 1

In the last five years only two top seeds have made the finals and only one of them has won. If you make the playoffs you have a legitimate shot to win it all.

I actually think there are several teams who are in the playoffs / in playoff contention who wouldn't buy Briere out because they'd love to have his 6.5M cap hit relative to his low salary left to be paid. For a cap ceiling team like Boston, 6.5M is the number that matters (his cap hit) so they'd 100% buy Briere out in the off-season. For a team like St. Louis, the number that matters is the 3M and 2M respectively owed to Briere in 13-14 and 14-15. For that price, he may very well be worth keeping to them.

Hence why I said I think Briere would want a guarantee he gets bought out this offseason, which might/will reduce his price and/or reduce his list of potential suitors.
Well I suppose we will have to wait and see. St. Louis may not buy him out, but idk if that means he would refuse a trade there. I think people are very much overestimating the family issue. Of course, I am not saying he 100% will waive and he is as good as gone, I just think that the situation with Briere is not as grim as some seem to think.

Of Pittsburgh and Boston, whomever loses out in the Iggy sweepstakes, I hope we can ship Briere off to as a consolation prize.

As sacrilegious as it may seem, I hope it's the Pens. If Shero is willing to part with Morrow, I wonder what other defensive prospect can be pried away for Danny Boy.

maybe Phoenix is asking about Talbot. Briere would never go there. doubt they are trading for a defenseman. Really dont think the Flyers are dealing Read IMO

Penguins will not do us the favour of taking the Briere contract... I think at this point Briere will not be moved unless teams come calling and give us an offer that forces us to force Briere to waive.

People might say B. Morrow for J. Morrow is a hilarious trade but Morrow scored 33 goals two years ago and he's still only 34 and is a Gold Medal winner. His cost was likely a lot less than other 'better' options (Iginla) and his physicality, experience, grit and leadership made the Pens go after him vs. somebody like Jagr, etc.

I don't think Flyers will do any 'short-term' buying but I could see them making a deal for somebody that could fit into their long-term plans. Unless they win the next 5 straight Holmgren will probably continue his 'not buying' stance.

It would take significantly more than Couturier to pry OEL out of Phoenix, especially now that he's signed. I think it's safe to speculate that any deal between the two would see Phoenix sending Yandle or Gormley/Rundblad/Summers back to Philly depending on the size of the deal.

OEL is their Giroux. Not moving.

I'd like Rundblad, just because I think he'd be cheapest.

I still cant see any deal where the Flyers are adding salary. they are using the LTIR money now as it is.
So no Bouwmeester. no Boyle. No Yandle

He's the closest thing that they've had to a star since Doan's prime as well. That's important to a team in a non-traditional hockey market like Phoenix. Only hardcore fans want to come and watch a team of unrecognizable players. They have to develop some homegrown stars if they want to attract the casual fan.

That's a pretty decent trade. Pens going for it this year. Morrow is a solid pickup without losing a roster player.

I still think it's an overpayment for B. Morrow. Pittsburgh has enough defensemen in the pipeline that makes it not too bad of a trade though.

Morrow's 34 and plays a physical type of game. A lot of wear and tear on his body. If Pittsburgh wins the cup this is all a moot point.

Oh well. Say goodbye to that first round pick and hello to Yandle!!

Seriously hope it's something around Rundblad or Gormley for one of our roster players... perhaps one of the defensemen.

If ****ing Brenden Morrow could get a prospect like Joe Morrow, I really have a hard time believing Briere wouldn't be able to get a similar defensive prospect.

I've made the same argument with trades involving the Flyers...even if it is an overpayment, I'd rather risk the overpayment in hopes of getting a Cup rather than risk not getting that final piece in hopes of Morrow turning into something special.
