I don't think we trade him
I would love it if he retires after this season

As long as Smyth aren't those consideration, I'm not too worried about the cost.

He should have walked during last year's offseason.

Shows how smart Tambellini is.

Would anyone pay up more than a 4th rounder for him at this point? I would be totally fine with shipping him to a contender for a bag of pucks at this point, just not sure if Ryan wants to go or if anybody wants him.

Or buyout him out when he thinks he's still has "something left"

This.
I don't see management wanting to move him simply for PR reasons, also I can't imagine to many teams being interested in him being their final piece of the puzzle for a cup run.

I love Smytty, say what you will about his diminished quality of play over the last couple of years but he's a true blue Oiler classic and you aren't a real fan if you don't respect the guy. That's why I too hope he chooses this off season to retire, so that the fans can remember him more for what he was then what he's doing now.

Edit- just to add, if he were traded I would hope that management lets him be in the drivers seat and choose a contender to go to similar to what the flames will have to do with Iginla... but I still doubt any trades will happen.

Nope. He doesn't have a NTC, but I guarantee he's got a gentleman's agreement that he won't be traded

He will retire an Oiler. I expect they will move Whitney and Jones, maybe Hemsky and Smid, if they can't re-sign him. Belanger, Eager, Potter, Peckham, Hordichuk should be cut lose ASAP.

This. He basically only came back to Edmonton so he could retire with his family.

Let him retire. Give him a coaching position with the Oil Kings junior team.

Love Smytty and idolized him when I was a kid but he's a shell of his former self.

Him and Belanger are the two most useless players on the team right now.

If we still have Smyth in the lineup next season I'm not convinced this team will be ready to make any big impact. Awful player and obviously on a team with awful depth.

Smyth would have to go to a contender for him to waive his NTC I would imagine. I want to see Smyth get a shot at a cup. It isn't going to come with us.

He doesn't have a NTC, only Horcoff and Whitney have them on the Oilers.

Smyth still thinks he can play and will not retire on his own.

I wonder if management has the stones to buy him out this offseason if he won't retire?

Its interesting, being older than many on this board (I have reason to believe that Replacement is older than I), I haven't the same connection to Smyth as some. Age, or perhaps its the fact that I have seen Gretzky, Messier, Coffey, and company traded. Whatever it is, dump the bum.

The Oil Kings have 100+ regular season wins and a WHL championship the last 2 seasons. Changes to the coaching staff aren't exactly a must.

Fourth liner playing most of the season out of position because management can be bothered to find a full compliment of NHL centres. Playing just over 10 minutes a night at evens. Definitely the problem.

Yup he has, he's playing out of position, but he's been terrible and a complete NON-Factor in his normal position.

Oh and 10 mins a night? Try again, 15:27 is his average. For some perspective, Hemsky is at 16:07, Belanager 15:00, Jones 14:21 and Horcoff 17:10.

Ryan Smyth is DONE, he was Done at this time last season. He needs to do everyone a favor and retire, if he doesn't trade him or buy him out, Time To Move ON.

11 minutes at ES. The rest on ST, mostly on the PK (which is top 10 in the league).

As for the rest: he's a fourth liner. Being a non-factor is in the job description.
