I will spend the rest of the season cheering for the kids to stay healthy and avoid all career threatening injuries.

Keep the Nuge out and let him have his shoulder surgery. Pull Ebs and let his broken finger heal. Sit Shultz Jr. out for a couple so he doesn't hurt himself due to being overplayed. Put Hall on the IR so he gets 100%. Reduce Yaks playing time to short, soft minutes.

Don't take the chance on injuring the young players. Just get healthy, tank, and take the pick.

At the end of the day, were still only 4 points out of a playoff spot, with a game in hand on the 8th seed and 18 games left.

10 at home, 8 on the road

The opportunity is still there, don't know if the Oilers are gonna take advantage of it though. Doesn't look good after tonight.

I wish they kept Nugent-Hopkins out as soon as they found out he was injured. (That's assuming he is indeed injured)

With every loss, it becomes less likely.

I agree on Nuge if he has shoulder issues get it sorted.

But the rest don't improve without playing, just be smart about it. Eberle isn't going to quit because of a sore digit, he's a hockey player. Schultz needs the full schedule to get his endurance up for next season, just ease off the minutes a bit. Krueger is already playing Yak limited minutes, which is fine. And Hall looks fine, aside from that dumb down look he has after whistles.

Is the playoffs..............?

Is the playoffs still makeable?.........Yes but Kevin and the rest of management have to redo year 2006 all over......What they do in 2006..............?..........here was the trade.........the team suffered from inconsistency during the first few months of the regular season, especially in goal and on offence.

Acquisitions, such as defenceman Jaroslav Spacek,[75] defenceman Dick Tarnstrom,[76] goaltender Dwayne Roloson,[77] and left wing Sergei Samsonov,[78] helped Edmonton finish the regular season with ninety-five points and clinch the final playoff spot in the Western Conference over the Vancouver Canucks.[79]

Kevin and Tambo....get it done!!!....two defencemen, a goaltender, and a forward.

We have 18 games left and pretty much need to go 11-5-2
Below I have outlined an easily predictable 8 losses.
We will also lose at least 1, if not all 3, of the Ducks games.

Assuming ~half of those losses go to OT, the best we do IMO is 9-5-4 or 9-4-5

Tue, 26 Mar 2013 Oilers Blues
Guaranteed loss(Come on now)

Sat, 30 Mar 2013 Canucks Oilers
Guaranteed loss (at home, on CBC)

Mon, 1 Apr 2013 Flames Oilers
Guaranteed Loss (Flames)

Wed, 3 Apr 2013 Oilers Flames
Guaranteed Loss (Flames)

Sat, 13 Apr 2013 Flames Oilers
Guaranteed loss(Flames, on cbc, at home)

Tue, 16 Apr 2013 Wild Oilers
Guaranteed Loss (Wild)

Fri, 26 Apr 2013 Oilers Wild
Guaranteed loss (Wild)

Sat, 27 Apr 2013 Canucks Oilers
Guaranteed Loss (at home, on CBC, final game)

Why are the games against the Canucks guaranteed losses? We've beat them this season.

They are at home on CBC, and one is the final game of the year which last year we lost 3-0 to the Canucks and have consistently lost for the last 4 years

There is also a Thursday game against the Canucks that I think may be more suitable to win.

Were worst then the Islanders... The Islanders have made the playoff 4 times since 01/02, we've made them twice.

"11-5-2"...it sounds so utterly "do-able" when simply looking at the line.

But...

Then we look at the team...and you just know...you might as well read it as if your holding it up to a mirror...

"5-11-2"...is more like it.

This organization has lost its desire to win and compete. They still think this abbreviated season is a glorified training camp. It seems like Lowe and his minions don't even realize the games are for real and that the Stanley Cup is going to be awarded in 2013.

Lets try Ralph and see if he can coach, he speaks really well, good communicator.

Lets see if Smyth can still play in the NHL, don't worry we have nothing to lose.

blah, blah, blah, I don't expect them to win the SC, but they should be competing for a playoff spot not second last in the entire league.

Wouldn't mirrored look something like 2-5-11. Krueger would be ecstatic about all those loser points!! We'd be over a .500 team down the stretch. Then Hall could say how he felt it was a good stretch run unfortunately they weren't able to lose more in OT, would have liked to get all 19 games to OT for a loss.

11-5-2 is basically impossible. Pack it up, we're golfing, sell what you can.

Probably. Whenever you have 7 teams fighting for 1 spot, you'll need a sick record to get in as you basically have to the best record out of 7 teams.

Good news is that we have games in hand on most of the teams, if we do our part and win just as much as Calgary, Nashville, Columbus, and Phoenix, we will stay ahead of them.

Bad news is that we're effectively 3 points behind San Jose and Dallas (3 points assuming we win our game in hand and since Dallas has any tiebreaker we need to pass and not tie). So we'll have to outplay those teams by 3 more points down the stretch. That will be hard to do since we don't play either team anymore.

Schedule wise, San Jose has a fairly easy schedule, they play teams that are clearly ahead of them in the standings 9 times, while we play those teams 11 times, and Dallas 12 times. San Jose also plays 11 home games, while we play 10 and Dallas play 9.

We really screwed the pooch blowing that lead against San Jose, they'll be a very hard team to catch up with now.

Oilers have played mediocre all season... not just now when they are "fighting for a playoff spot".

I think 48 pts is going to be tough to achieve... and obviously not enough for a playoff spot. They've been lucky racking up loser pts but that trend will likely end with most of their opponents playing like they ARE looking to try and make the playoffs instead of just putting up half-assed efforts like the Oil.

The Oil improved enough to get points in more meaningless games, but still suck bigtime in the important ones.

Funny thing is, if the Oilers beat Nashville tomorrow night, they're only 2 points out of 8th and 1 point behind NSH, CLB & SJ.

If, and that's a BIG if, the Oilers win 3 out of 5 these next 7 days and beat NSH, CLB & CGY and lose to STL & VAN, they'll be right there.

I think playing a few more meaningful games while they can is good for these young guys.

Breaking down what I see:
W vs Nashville
L vs St. Louis
W vs CBJ
W vs Vancouver
W vs Calgary
W vs Calgary
OTL vs Vancouver
L vs LA
L vs Anaheim
OTL vs Phoenix
W vs Calgary
L vs Minnesota
W vs Colorado
L vs Anaheim
OTL vs Anaheim
L vs Chicago
L vs Minnesota
W vs Vancouver

I'm looking at a 8-7-3 at our absolute best.

A ruse...indeed.

Listen...no one will be happier than I if this fantasy of Oiler playoff hockey comes to fruition this year. So many variables have to fall into place and on top of all that there is the reality of this brutal roster.
Can this roster actually win 70% of its remaining games?

I just do not see that happening....at all.

Now is the time to make noise before or at the trade deadline. For the love of everything good do something.

I'd like to see something really big that acknowledges the fact that playoffs are gone. The team is truly playing for next season. Despite the obvious need I have no faith in Tambo doing something big.

There are smaller moves that can be made if the team isn't willing to go big. Move one of the goalies. There must be a team willing to look at Whitney for veteran presence as a 5/6. Is Jonesy a reasonable rental?
