I'm not upset that the Yankees picked up one of the statistically worst baseball players that ever played the game

Nah, but in seriousness, good luck to Vernon. Like people have said, it's not his problem he has a deal of a lifetime offered him. No-one in the world would have turned that down. He was good for us for a while, and he was classy in departure. Good luck in New York.

I am stunned that anyone would think Wells could help their team period, let alone at his salary.

Wells doing well would directly impact how successful our year could be. People should hope he has an even worse year than he has ever had.

I don't think its a huge gamble for the NYY to pick him up at 5 million per season, if the reports are true (the Angels would pay up 32 million of his 42 million owed).

Yea, of all franchises, Yankees are probably the one that cares the LEAST about his salary. The fact that LA is picking up most of the tab makes this a pretty safe trade. It almost doesn't matter if Wells can actually play or not....the only significant "risk" is that they have to use one of their 40-man spots on him.

i wouldn't say a great pickup but for 5M, and seeing how depleted that yankee roster is, it isn't that bad of a move. will add more HR's and K's though so i guess the yankees are willing to sacrifice OBP for HRs.

Yeah, I liked that commercial. I liked that music too. I had hopes that would be the broadcast theme for the Jays games

EDIT: Found the one I was talking about:

was that what you were talking about?
The commercial I'm talking about has been deleted (which is weird, I don't think I've ever seen a message like that when looking at vids on MLB.com); this is the song that was in it (around ~1 minute into the vid):

This commercial also had a weight sled

C'mon now, I think we all know the only person here that was looking for that is you.

You have a whole crate of bottles of it, don't you?

Random question for everyone.

Of all the new players, who do you think is going to have the biggest/most underrated impact and why?

It's hard to say that a single pitcher can have the biggest impact since they will only pitch, at best, about 20% of the season. Collectively the pitching will have the biggest impact. But individually, I think it'll be Reyes.

for most underrated, I think it'll be Bonifacio. Being able to sub at multiple positions, I think he'll get into more games than everyone thinks and be able to rack up a lot of steals and score a lot of runs with the offence around him.

Not going by the big guns I'll say Melky. Although, he could be a big name really. But I think that signing has fallen under the radar a little.

I think it's going to be Josh Johnson. People have already forgotten about him. Man, if he has a big year like he is capable of and R.A and Morrow do their thing, it's going to be scary for everyone in the AL. Our rotation as a whole has sick, sick potential. Just filthy nasty. If Romero also can figure it out again

Really hope Romero doesn't make it. He doesn't deserve it and I hate when players get it because of past performances or name on the back of jersey.

Happ gives u a chance to win
Romero gives the game way after 1-2 innings.

I am going to throw in a mention to Mark DeRosa. We have not had that talented of a 25th man in recent memory and judging by his spring he looks like a pinch hitting option with power late in games who can play respectable defense.

Mark DeRosa is Omar Vizquel 2.0. A slightly better version but basically a team mascot.

Not a player, but I think Gibby will have the most underrated impact.
