Dallas totally fleeced the Penguins in this one. Morrow isn't the same player he use to be.

Not much. Morrow's price is only driven up because of his gritty style that playoffs teams kill for. Hemsky would garner a 2nd and a prospect at best (think of Boston's offer for Morrow, which was Khoklachev and a 2nd, but a lesser prospect than him)

Pretty much

The old warhorse, former captain types usually remain well respected and coveted even when they decline significantly.

Hemsky doesn't fit into that category, he gets "this is why there is going to be a lockout" type comments from opposing GMs whenever gets a new contract.

I dunno. Hemsky has been coveted by other GM's for a while but his health has been a question mark. Maybe his return would surprise us... well, if we had a better GM.

You couldn't be more wrong. There are playoff-bound teams seemingly desperate for that instant-offense forward to help change the complexion of the game for them. I'd say teams like LAK, BOS, and STL may express some interest in Hemsky.

There are few better 1on1 players today on the rush than Hemsky.

Price would certainly be more than you stated

I'm starting to think this is a great year to be a seller. Even if we're in a playoff position in the next week and a half, it might be smart to at least entertain offers on Hemsky, Smid, Jones, Khabibulin, Whitney and Belanger. If the Oilers are going to be as busy in the off-season as some of the media believes they will, then at least 4 of those players won't be back. Might as well get something back for them while teams are overpaying. There are just so many teams that will be buying this trade deadline day due to the tight standings. Limited teams selling = more offers to teams selling = higher prices.

You have to think Boston was offering something pretty close in value to Joe Morrow if that's what it took to get Brenden Morrow from Dallas.

Do you have a link to that offer by Boston?

Kunitz Crosby Dupuis
Morrow Malkin Neal
Cooke Sutter Kennedy
Glass Vitale Adams

Orpik Letang
Martin Niskanen
Despres Eaton

MAF
Vokoun

They're one defenseman away from a guaranteed cup.

Vokoun is a clutch pickup

Boston's ridiculous amount of Cap space disagrees about the "guaranteed" part.

Plus Morrow will quickly float off that 2nd line.

Oilers seems to be in the mix for DeKeyser, think we can pull another shultz type of signing?

I don't see how they could muster up the non-NHL assets to add to their blue line and forwards. They need a 3C more than they need a winger, and definitely need some help on D.

But you're right, they got cap room to add some big names

Boston? They'd be fine. They could add Iginla and Visnovsky, and likely still have space for more. I almost expect them to do that.

I wonder what sort of return Whitney + Belanger gets us from Boston?

Would you give up Hemsky+Petry for Dougie Hamilton?

I feel if Hamilton is the one going back they'd want Petry over Whitney

No, I wouldn't. I don't think that highly of him yet. I'd swap Smyth(possibly+) for Caron

Edit: With regards to Hamilton, two things, Myers looked great at the same age, and the Chara factor. How much better do your defensemen become when you have one of the best in the world on the blueline with them.

Probably get more without Belanger. They don't need him and he has another year on his deal.

He's starting to show why he was so highly touted. Obviously not getting all the defensive responsibility of a true stud defenseman but doesn't need to on a team with Seidenberg, Chara, Boychuk, and Ference.

I'm a big believer in him turning into a #1/2 defenseman. I doubt Boston deals him, even with that return

Indeed, he's pretty affordable too.

It's hard for them to fit anyone into their top-6, as they already have 6 capable ones. But with Kelly injured, they may want to try Seguin as a 3C:

Horton Krejci Hemsky
Marchand Bergeron Peverley
Paille Seguin Lucic (line TS went on a tear with to start 2011-12 season)
Thornton Campbell Pouliot

Chara Petry
Boychuk Seidenberg
McQuaid Ference

Pouliot isn't even on their team anymore.

The Eastern Conference is a JOKE, wait tell they meet the Western Side during the cup finals, only thing the East has over them will be the ridiculous travel they (WEST) will all be burnt out......

This season is basically NOT FAIR playing field.
