I suppose two of the wilder-cards would be Almquist and Backman. Almquist absolutely has the hockey sense, vision, and passing, but I'm not convinced of his ability to crack an NHL lineup, even as a PP specialist. I haven't watched Backman, but I know he plays PP and is certainly racking up the assists in the SEL. However, he has almost no goals and that's a little worrying. You need both guys on the PP to be a shooting threat, at least in theory.

Actually, kind of weird, really: across all competition for Backman since the 2007-2008 season, he only has 20 goals. in 284 games.
Well Brendan Smith still qualifies as a prospect and is left handed with #1 PP upside. And are you really surprised that a two way defenseman only gets a goal every 14 games?

Doesn't Smith play the right side though?
Kronner still has some mileage left on him as the #1 PP LD, in 5 years or so he could be our bottom pairing, 1st PP specialist.

So considering that HF is coming out with our Mid-Term rankings soon what is your top 20, also I think Smith & Nyquist are still considered prospects so include them in your top 20.

Mine is something like this:

1. Smith
2. Nyquist
3. Tatar
4. Jarnkrok
5. Sproul
6. Mrazek
7. Ouellet
8. Sheahan
9. Jurco
10. Backman
11. Ferraro
12. Frk
13. Andersson
14. Athanasiou
15. Marchenko
16. Pulkkinen
17. Jensen
18. Quine
19. Lashoff
20. Tvrdon

Wow, adding Smith & Nyquist back to the pool must give us 1 of the deepest pools in the NHL, imagine if we had stunk it up this year and added a Jones/Mackinnon to the pool...

Even right now we're leaving guys off that have NHL potential, all be it #5/6 dmen and 9th-13th forwards but still that's incredible depth. The work Holland & Nill did from the 09-12 period is really good, even the 07 & 08 drafts were just okay but it brought us Nyquist & Smith. If we even hit on half of these guys we will be fine for the next 10 years or so.

Hopefully this year we go for some big home run picks as we have the depth to deal with a bad draft.

Barrie Colts fan here. Athanasiou has been nothing sort of spectacular in the first two games of these playoffs.

Since Scheifele's return from the Jets, he's been pretty quiet. He's had his moments, but wasn't able to find the consistency that he's had previously in the season.

In these playoffs though...he's been unreal. Just dominating every time he steps on the ice. I don't know how to describe it. It's about as good of an individual effort that you're going to find and it's happening at a great time.

Yeah, just check out the Barrie Colts main website. There's a media center on the front page with highlights of every game.

Awesome, thanks for posting. I've been very impressed with his play this season and it sounds like he's taking it to another level in the playoffs. That's a great sign.

Man it would be ridiculous if Paterson could pull that game out. That's a .961 SV%

Coetzee's been doing well and was voted Toledo's favorite player by fans. Malik provides details and a video.

I hope he gets a fair shot in GR next year, if not this one.

I wouldn't believe these two jokes until I see something official.

Calle is going to tear the AHL apart. The Griffs have a beastly squad going into the playoffs.

Here's what just happened when Pulkkinen took a slapshot from the blueline in warm ups...

It's game 4 with Jokerit surprisingly down 2-1 in the series. A loss tonight and it's pretty much all over for them, and a huge disappointment.

Hehe, even I have broken a glass like that,as a 15 year old or something, you just need to be "lucky" and hit the little spot that is a little bit "weaker" than the other part of the glass and it will go KABOOM
