I think he'd still have the same powerplay numbers, but not sure about ES.

Boucher fired in TB. Wow coaches really don't last long in this league.

Especially considering they took an unheralded team to the ECF.

Watch the Flames go on a winning streak after moving Iginla. I mean, if they do, whatever. Keeps them away from a lottery pick....

A very arrogant, and very American, comment from Sporting News columnist Jesse Spector.

In the end, Canadians may wind up hating Gary Bettman more for his role in making @usahockey dominant than anything else.

@StanFischler: If I was picking the next Tampa Bay coach it would be #TomRenney; no questions asked.

What exactly has made USA Hockey dominant?

Is he talking about international play? Must be the WJC if he is. They haven't got anything higher than a Silver Medal in the Olympics since 1980 and nothing higher than a Bronze Medal in the World Championships since 1960.

Maybe he's talking about the american-based NHL teams that are full of Canadians?

Weird comment...

He talked about how kids in places like California and Carolina are enrolling in hockey at high rates and about how American NHLPA membership has risen from 15 percent to 25 percent since 2000. He also lauded the NCAA over the CHL when it comes to developing NHLers. When I sent him a simple tweet about how Canadians still make up a whopping 55 percent of the league he just responded "Wait 20 years." He failed to respond to my tweet about the Americans finishing 7th at the 2012 World Juniors.

There's two Californian born players in the NHL right now vs. 55% of the league being Canadian.

There's more people in California than there is in Canada. It's only logical to assume more players will be emerging in the USA considering the population. Going from a couple players from non-hockey states to a handful isn't "dominant".

When California starts producing more NHLers than Canada, I'll consider them "dominant".

Well that's weak logic, "we're dominant now because wait 20 years"

For sure. A 10 percent jump in NHLPA membership in 13 years is impressive but a lot of folks who are invested in hockey in the US are getting ahead of themselves.

Wonder how many of those kids watched the Coyotes, Wild, Blues, or Kings and said "I want to play on those teams"...

I'm being a tad judgmental here but I don't think that "excitement" is number one when it comes to generating interest in a sport in a lot of US markets. It's all about winning. If you're winning then people will pay attention.

Winning generates viewers. Excitement retains them. I think they go hand in hand.

Plus none of those teams (save the Kings obviously) have won anything of significance in the last.... well, 40 years.

The NHL regular season is (normally) stupid long. Long enough to give a fanbase a fat head about their team if they enjoy some success. Playoff success doesn't mean much for bandwagon hoppers.

True enough.

But there's a reason why the NHL continues to market the East Coast teams. Larger viewing demographic and more excitement. Choosing between the Pens/Flyers and... really, any game out West... It's not even close. The West has been sucked dry of offense and it's just painful to watch games. And I'm not talking about just the Oilers. The Flames are just as bad. Vancouver, while better, is just a shell of the team from the last 2 years. You couldn't pay me to watch a potential Minnesota/St. Louis playoff matchup...

They'll hire Jon Cooper, he's the next minor league coach in waiting and he's in the Tampa Organization.

I hope Iggy doesn't get traded because the return was too low.

If he does get moved, I hope the return is so low Calgary Puck explodes.

Something like a 2nd rounder + 3rd line prospect.

Tee hee.

Absolutely amazing effort by Iggy on that goal.

Halak needs to punch himself in the junk for letting it in.
