Kaberle is not one of MT's choices for the top 6. Tinordi easily feels the void. I for one look forward to seeing him no longer a member of the Habs.

Tbh, I think he'd be better in the line-up than JT, but I guess it's about the team's philosophy since they don't play the same way. Anyways, it won't matter once Diaz gets back and it's not like it's hurting the team since we've been on a roll, so what do I know.

I know his contract isn't the best, but he does produce, I'm a little shocked we can't get something for him. A 3rd or 4th? Something! Feel kinda bad he goes from star PMD to press box so quickly

I agree.......I thought Kaberle was terrible last year but he really impressed me this year..Speaking of soft, who is any softer than Markov in front of the net ? Gotta be a team interested in him.

Are you kidding? Markov has saved so many sure goals because of his quick reactions at clearing the net..and his stick is still very good. Wow..

Ummmmm.......Kaberle

Markov isn't soft at all in front of the net. He may not be a punishing defender but he fights for his space and is very good at tying up attackers and lifting their sticks. The only knock on Markov is his skating which occasionally gets him in trouble on bad pinches.

I wish we kept Kaberle since we gave up draft picks to get him. Corvo was way worse IMO.

I have to think they're essentially bubble-wrapping him. His play hasn't been so bad that there's any real argument against using him on that basis. They probably explored the trade market, found there wasn't one, still are holding out some faint hopes just in case something arises at the deadline, but are essentially bubble-wrapping him for the buyout. Bergevin has proven he's "unclassy" like that. Fortunately.

what a shame MB does that

Kaberle hasn't really sone much to stand out. not great, not bad. He offers nothing that isn't aleady in the lineup, so may as well bubble wrap the guy for the buyout...or trade to any desperate GM in the summer

Such a bad treatment he's getting. Paid 4.5 millions a year to travel 1st class, watch some hockey and practice on a daily basis. I am ashamed of being a Habs fan........

I wish I was treated so poorly and unjustly

Kaberle is the team's daily reminder that the organization is now a MERITOCRACY.

Well, no, I'd say that it's better than that. The team is more forward-looking than that. Kaberle, on merit, is not our 8th or 9th or 10th best defenseman. Even playing on his off-side or forcing somebody else to switch to the right side, he's not that far down the depth chart. If it were a true meritocracy, he'd play. But it isn't. It's better. Because just bubble-wrapping him for a trade/buyout is better for the team in the long-run.

In the old days, he'd be allowed to play, because he was the 6th best guy, and he'd probably get hurt, and then we'd be stuck with him next year too. Or conversely he'd get on some little mini-hot streak which raises the possibility that maybe just maybe who knows he might be a little bit better next year, and we might need him. Etc. Either way, we get stuck with him when he's a year older and even more deteriorated, and whatever gap between him and the others chasing him on the depth chart is even more meaningless than it is right now.

The gap is manageable today. Kaberle can be a slightly better player than our other options, but it doesn't matter, we can take that very minor hit to help the team prosper (in multiple ways) down the road.

It's not at all a meritocracy, but it's good management all the same.

Guys that mourn the play of Kaberle are guys I will never see eye to eye with.

I have never seen a softer D. His determined lack of effort to keep the puck in the offensive zone is unparalleled.

The poise he has with the puck cannot overcome the many facets of Kaberle's game that I find inexcusable, and frankly, hard to watch.

I've found that Markov is often the one starting scrums in front of the Habs' because he's pretty protective of his goalie.

Yes, he has changed his game and doesn't really hit anymore (not that he ever was much of a hitter) but I wouldn't call Markov soft.

Maybe that Kaberle is preparing for a second long playoff push in 3 years?
