Wendel Clark "tribute" video

Sorry, there isn't a real Wendel tribute video (although if someone could make one, it would be fantastic)

However, while searching for one on youtube i found this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OEUZ4Zc908U

It's...hillarious. It's like a highlite reel of his from the late 80's (whenhe was the only Leaf worth talking about), but it has all sorts of hillarious staged close-ups on him.

It's pure comedy, in the vein of that old Calgary Flames music video that keeps floating around. I figured I'd better share.

Sadly, some of his more awesome plays (knocking Cujo's mask off, KO'ing that Blues defenceman behind the net) don't make it on here. But you get a good appreciation for how good a fighter he was.

You obviously didn't live in Toronto during the Clark era. Can't comment on what fans in others cities thought of him, but in Toronto he was extremely overrated.

I remember this video quite well - it was on HNIC. I recorded this video among many other highlights and showed it to a non-hockey fan friend of mine. This video made him a Leafs fan and a Wendel Clark fan.

Clark's a guy who we sit back and wonder "what if?" What if he didn't have the back problems? To say that he played like "a bull in a china shop" is an understatement.

Like Scott Stevens, Clark's a guy who you would have sworn was at least 6'4", 220 lbs. (Stevens was listed at anywhere from 6'-6'2", and 200-215 lbs). Clark? 5'11", 197 lbs. But he had great strength and no fear. Beat Bob Probert in a fight in 1991. I believe he was injured later in the game. And Clark may have had the best wrist shot in the last 20 years. An absolute bullet. On those rare occasions of good health in his prime, he was a dominant force, one of the best goals-physical play combos in the league.

Ummm. I see a goatee. What's with the goatee? The Hockey Fu was the signature facial hair requirement of the truly tough players of that era.

Clark is one of my favorite players. His fight with McSorley is what I remember the most. One of the best series I have ever watched. It's too bad that hockey isn't played like that now. There was so much emotion, which is lacking in today's game.

Keep in mind this video was only of his early years. He was young and foolish at the time. With greater responsibility, came a greater 'stash.

Yes, of course, a foible of his youth. Somebody should find a picture of the more wise and mature "Sifu Clark".... lest the image of him be permanently marred in the minds of the younger ones here.
