That place makes decent donairs...but i've had better, much better. The ones we make are by far the best...we have 2 sauces to choose from, a garlic one and a sweet sauce. I eat mine with garlic sauce, cheese, and lettuce only. yumyum
At the risk of sounding like a donair virgin, because I'm not, I've had the garlic sauce, Tsatziki sauce, standard greek sauce, but not sweet sauce. What is a sweet sauce, and what particularly goes in it, and if spawn could please resist replying

Well ours is more of a garlic dill not tsatziki, its still amazing though. And the sweet sauce, we buy it not make it but its like a creamy white sweet vinegar sauce...its hard to describe and since i dont really like it i never use it. I'm sure mowzie can explain it better.

Thanks much Rin. I think I like the dill-garlic sauce the most. Just thought of this but those vindalia onion sauces would be pretty great going in a donair. Although maybe too much onion power
While I'm here again I'll put a plug in for L & W in Hinton.Fantastic greek roadside diner with good prices(Jasper restaurant, same family, is high priced )
Anyhoo the Souvlaki pita platter with greek salad is unbelievable. I've driven from Edmonton-Vancouver nonstop with only this as my trip nourishment. Best quick pitstop meal anywhere on the Yellowhead.
Ok this is my big question what's the difference between a Donair and Gyro?
The supreme donair is an amply proportioned for us big strong Canadian lumberjack types meal and a gyro is a wussy, puny, thing found in in a NY or San-Fran deli decorated with artichokes and brussel sprouts
I used to work at a place in Edmonton Centre called "Bernie Schaeffers Chicago Hot Dogs." Obviously they mainly did hot dogs, but the donairs there were amazing and I've yet to find one that compares. Its probably long gone now though .
P.S.
Start posting address' and business hours so the next time I'm in Edmonton I know where to go at 2-4 am

SubJoint in Fort Saskatchewan is the best I have had. The owner is very nice, and she isn't cheap with the toppings like many donair places. She also has a dill sauce that is the best I have ever had, and it tastes so good on the donairs.
If we had a vote SubJoint would get mine hands down.
seriously! someone in cowtown help a brother out here. i've found ZERO good donairs here (though i've found a couple of ****** ones).
Up behind the Raddison Hotel on 16th Ave NE. A little strip mall with a bong store(actually friends of mine own the store and told me they had the best donairs). I've been there a couple of times , and no not the bong store

I was just down in calgary for a week just after the stampede and I had one awful donair and one that was pretty good -- problem is that they are both downtown about two blocks apart, on 8th ave at around 8th street? the one that was good was the one farther west if that helps.
The thing I liked about the good place was they had three types of meat, I had the lamb and it was so tender... mmmmm I think I gotta go for an early lunch.
Dukes is prolly the best donair I have had around town... just down by the UofA. worked @ the U for 5 years and they were good for all 5 of them.
Welcome to the boards Manicmoose. Is that the place right across the street from res? If so, they've had excellent donairs since the early 90's When I was staying in Lister we used to hang out there, mostly for the insanely cheap jugs of draft, but the donairs were good too, and HUGE, I don't think I ever completely finished one of their super donairs.
