There's no timeline for a return. Just like his oblique injury, when he feels better, he'll come back.

11:42pm: The Yankees "will have $6.5M count against payroll" for Vernon Wells for both 2013 and 2014, Mark Feinsand of New York Daily News reports (on Twitter). Joel Sherman of the New York Post seems to have a different take, writing, "most of the dollars will be applied to 2013" for the Yankees.

So in total, they are going to pay 13M for Wells. I don't get why as 4th outfielders are supposed to make basically nothing. Think about this, Yankees will be paying 13M for Wells over 2 years, Jays will pay Melky 16M over 2 years.

I though Lawrie would be good for opening day, how bad is this oblique injury?

Apparently he's getting closer, just he's not 100% and doesn't want to come back early and make it worse, just playing the safe/not sorry card (hopefully).

Also, since it'll be retro-active to early March, he'll be able to come off the DL whenever he's ready, so he could miss only 1 game if that's all he needs, in theory.

He strained his left rib cage, but it's pretty similar to his Oblique injury in which he just has to rest until he feels completely comfortable. He'll miss a minimum of 4 games (comes off DL on April 6th) but there's no schedule for a return.

Earliest he come off is April 6. AA said he wanted to Lawrie to get some games in and his bat to be ready at game speed. He'll miss some games but its not a big deal.

Looks like we'll be going with a 8 man bullpen too. I'd think Jeffress/Cecil/Loup all make it then.

Brewers sign Kyle Lohse. They needed pitching.

Jim Beattie, a scout with the Blue Jays, says the club is looking for help at both second base and in the bullpen.

"This is my fourth year with the Blue Jays and I love it," Beattie said. "We have 22 pro scouts, way more than a lot of teams. When I was with the Expos and Orioles, we had no more than six or eight pro scouts.

"I give Alex [Anthopoulos] coverage reports on players. We're always looking for pitching depth in the bullpen and our situation at second base is a little unsettled. We have two guys (Emilio Bonifaccio and Maicer Izturis) there but they're not an everyday guys."

Why would they trade him when they wanted him in the Marlins deal?

They just think he and Izturis would make way better bench players, and they're completely right.

nov 8 - izturis signs
nov 13 - marlins trade
nov 17 - cabrera signs

we all thought the initial plan for bonifacio was #2 hitter LF
then they got cabrera
and they dont have confidence in either bonifacio or izturis as an everyday 2b (yet)

i think AA just picks up players with value when ever he can, and they'll try to figure out where they'l fit later.
he was excited at getting a young player with potential in bonifacio, without knowing where he'd fit.

and he's not reluctant to trade young players with high potential so we've seen

now theyre looking for an everyday 2b?

Heard from a scout, not AA's mouth. I also don't remember hearing Boni being a left fielder who would hit #2. I specifically remember him being referred to as the super sub who would hit 9th, even before Melky came along. People were more interested in putting Gose at CF and Rasmus at LF before that signing.

Crazy that the season starts next week. I also booked flight/tickets to the Jays/Sox in Boston on that last weekend of June. First time at Fenway and in Boston, so I'm quite excited. Going to be wicked.

Janssen seems like he is fine. Strikes out the side in order.

John Lott ‏@LottOnBaseball 3m

Janssen strikes out the side, all swinging at breaking stuff, 10 pitches, 9 strikes.

He is in his usual strike throwing machine as well.

Some more interesting released players: Rod Barajas and Matt Capps. Don't really have room for Barajas but Capps would be a nice pick-up on a minor league deal.

Awards:
http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/90...013-nos-51-100

ESPN now into the 100-51 range for their top 500 players:

85) Brett Lawrie (down from 83 last year)
78) Josh Johnson (down from 30)
58) Edwin Encarnacion (up from 349)

So with 50 to go, we still haven't seen: Bautista, Dickey, or Reyes. I had Darren Oliver on the list before, but I only thought he had an outside chance of being in the high 90s or something. There's no way they'll put a non-closing reliever this high on the list, even if he does deserve it over any number of closers)

Bautista and Reyes probably between 20-30, Dickey between 10-20.

Gotta like what we're seeing from our starting rotation so far this week:

Happ: 6IP, 2H, 0ER, 2BB, 3K

Morrow: 5 1/3IP, 8H, 5ER, 1BB, 2K (excluding the 5th inning: 4 1/3IP, 3H, 1R, 0BB, 2K)

Johnson: 6IP, 4H, 0ER, 1BB, 8K

Dickey also looked outstanding in the game against the Dominican, 5IP, 5H, 1ER, 1BB, 4K.

I feel good with these results. They all seem to be hitting their stride perfectly.

What was Buehrle line in his last appearance?

I haven't heard a single thing about buehrle this spring. Lost of stories about Dickey, Morrow, Johnson, Romero, Happ, but nothing at all about Buehrle. What's the deal with him right now?

He's so hit or miss right now it's insane. They may just be working on some stuff with him but he'll come in and pitched a nice clean inning and follow it up with an outing like he had today. He's a big question mark for sure. I think this is why their gonna be bullpen heavy to start the year. We'll call it an extended spring for a lot of relievers and potentially Ricky

If we re-sign him. I'd likely want a jersey of his lol.
