We already saw this happen with Morrow, the Pens overpaid because it both helped them and stopped the Bruins from getting Morrow. This is also the reason I do not believe the Pens are out of the Iginla sweepstakes just because they picked up Morrow.
This makes a lot of sense.
What PIT can do is even if they don't want to pay a lot to get Iginla, they can always create a bidding war and at least make BOS pay more or have them give up and let Western team get Iginla instead

Right, IMO the Bruins offer was slightly better. Even if you call the prospects a wash the 2nd rounder is much better than a 5th rounder, obviously.

Shero has the look of a GM willing to go all in this year. East looks pretty weak. And the Pens will never have this much cap space with Sid/Geno/Letang signed longterm. We have the assets. Nothing would surprise me.

Ideally, we hold onto Pouliot as he's the only PP QB in the system now. Dumoulin will make the roster next year so Id like to keep him as well.

Maatta+Blueger+1st. Would absolutely do it.

Something like Blueger + Maatta + pick

Based on what was said after the Morrow trade with relation to which prospects they value most in the system I'd be surprised to see them trade Pouliot or Maatta. But again, it wouldn't be the first time I was surprised.

if Shero didn't know the Bruins were in on Morrow he wasn't paying attention, it was pretty common knowledge. It also sounds like Morrow didn't present a list to the Stars, so they gave him a choice of team A or team B and took the offer for the team he accepted the trade to since they had no other choice. With Iginla if reports are correct he has given a list, meaning the Flames can choose the best deal from the teams on his list.

Before you'd even spend the time to even look at this trade, you'd have to hire a team of Sherpa's to get you over the majestical twin peaks of Mt. Salary and Mt. Cap.

Still need to open a roster spot for this to happen. The Flames are going to have to take a warm body off the Pens active roster.

I'll revise it to, Maata, Blueger, Kennedy, Min. 3rd/Pens 2nd.

I'm happy that the stars didn't accept the Koko and a 2nd offer if that was indeed the proposal but that makes me think that iginla is going to haul a sizeable return

Flames fans are creaming.

Nobody thought this was going to happen. Aging rental, best days behind him. People were viciously shouting down the idea of a single first round pick.

Going to be a ridiculous, ridiculous overpayment for whoever gets him.

^^ You bet we are. If Koko and a 2nd couldn't land Morrow, what Iginla lands is going to ridiculous

So we give 2 2nd round picks which are likely in the 35-31 range, and pick up 2 1st round picks in the 25-30 range...

Yea, no thanks.

If that was true, I woundn't bet the house on it. Just because the Pens got bent over doesn't meen a thing.

I think the Bruins will be smart about this, I trust our gm. Iginla will be a nice pu ONLY at the right price.

And seeing the names Flames fans feel it will take. NO THANKS !

That's what Boston did to Pittsburgh with the Morrow trade

Stop ... there is NO NEED to add Iginla. Pittsburgh's actions yesterday says it's not happening. No sense trading more assets for a non-need. No sense dreaming or talking about it.

Have you looked at who is signed for the Pens on Defense two years from now? I'm pretty sure you haven't. Martin is the only one. You can't start trading away more D prospects because they will be the key in two years after Malkin is resigned.

Honestly though just to see him and Aliu as teammates in Abbotsford it might be worth it though. Would love to be a fly on the wall of that dressing room if it ever happened.

I'm not so sure Boston did that intentionally. Both offers were pretty even if you ask me.

Maybe, maybe not either way its in the Pen's best interest to drive up the cost of Boston acquiring him.

Friedman mentions that Vancouver is still a possible destination. Would Gaunce + Connauton + 1st work for Calgary?

I'm not so sure that happened with Morrow, I am not privy to the way things played out but I never got the impression Brendan Morrow submitted a list to the Stars, if he had the Stars and Bruins could have been bidding against each other. It sounds like this was a case where Morrow was asked to waive after and chose the team he preferred. Had Morrow given a list with both the teams on it I am afraid it would have been even uglier.
