I agree. It's a sad trend in the NHL where more often than not, the wrong guy is fired due to the inability of a GM. Edmonton is one of the biggest examples of this and Columbus was as well, for a long time.
It's always been like that
You can't fire the players
You can't really fire the GM after only two (or is three now?) years
Who can you get rid of if you want to make sure the message "this isn't good enough" gets across? The coach
It sucks for the coach but I Boucher shouldn't be out of a job for too long: he's a good coach.
You need 1st/2nd round picks to build your team in the future. But When Pittsburgh has Crosby and Malkin, they could just spend the picks for veterans at every deadline for the next decade and be a contender each year I think.
