Yet Nick is -9 and Justin is -12...

Hopefully he becomes a good #3 for us.

Hemsky + for Lucic

Lucic has 4 goals this year, Hemmer needs a change of scenery and could be a nice addition for a team that could use secondary scoring.

Erik Karlsson Rookie, 45pts(awesome), -30(horrendous)

Year 2, Norris Trophy, maybe it takes more then 30-ish games to decide on a player. Geez

Edit: I'm NOT saying Schultz is Karlsson, just saying maybe we shouldn't write him off yet.

For Lucic it is not about goals but his physical play

Bruins don't do this.

Nick is plus 6 in his last 6 games and had a stretch of being -14 in 12 games shortly before. If Justin Schultz just ends up being a good #3 on this team the Oilers are going no where at all.

Nice thought and the exact guy the Oilers need. But Lucic is about as rare of a commodity as you can find in the NHL, highly doubtful the Bruins trade him in the next 5 years, and Hemsky + isn't even going to be close in getting it done.

Bruins would probably decline but I'd do it. Even if Lucic doesn't become 20ish goal scorer, just having Lucic give the Canucks fits is worth the trade.

Exactly why it's so important we move one of the big-4 forwards for a top-pairing defenseman like McDonagh or Carlson.

Good luck with that. Teams want to get tougher for playoff hockey, not softer.

The trade aside, have you seen Hemmer in the playoffs? Go back to the last trip to the PO and check out Hemmer...'Soft' wasn't a word I would use...

Douglas Murray to the Pens, Whitney a healthy scratch, hopefully there's a fire behind all this smoke.

Hopefully.

and to add to the trade:

@reporterchris

"Can confirm the #pens have acquired Douglas Murray. Sounds like picks heading back to the #sharks"

Edit: it's now confirmed at two 2nd round draft picks

That sounds like quite a bit to me, I'm really interested to see what returns are for players. This only strengthens my thought that Ryan Smyth would actually earn something back for the Oilers in a trade

Murray for 2 second's, one of them conditional based on if he re-signs.

Quick, put Whitney on the trade block.

Smid's going to fetch a 1st+

if we're trading smid for picks, then this rebuild really IS in a never-ending cycle

the time for trading actual NHLers for magic beans is over - let's hope management understands this (but with their love of youth and picks, i'm not hopeful)

Seems like it's a seller's market.

Would be nice to get some decent picks back for Whitney and Belanger.

I doubt anyone deals for Smyth, with his contract being 100% on the books next year and the cap going down it's a risk.

You've gotta think we can get a 1st+ for Whitney in this market

That and he's done, but if a contender gets him and wins, maybe he retires.

That's just it does a contender want that risk that he retires and uses up cap space next year?

On a side note kinda odd two teams in the playoff hunt dropped roster players for futures. Granted I doubt SJ is done, it just seems like something we usually don't see. Not this soon anyway.

Yeah, only the top contenders (top three or four) in each conference are going to benefit from this trade deadline.
