Hah, nope. Hertl is a big kid. Hopefully he can be convinced to come to the U.S. next season.

Man, Hertl just put a big hit on a defenseman and ran the goaltender within about 5 minutes.

Well, he has one more year on his contract with Slavia and Slavia has new ambitious owner. Guess they'll do all they can to keep him there for one more year. (I hope they fail and he joins SJ, so I can hate Slavia properly again )

Wow, that was a horrendous dive by Slavia's goaltender.

That was a great pass by Hertl there at the end. Can't believe that guy didn't bury that. Hertl looks really good to me, I think he should come to the U.S. soon to get used to the size of ice surface. Seems like he would learn more playing here, plus the Sharks need him.

Tomas played like a man possessed in those last 3 minutes.

Also, his skating looks improved to me. I know the quality of players isn't fantastic there, but Hertl was outracing quite a few smaller guys.

Anyway, I'd love to see him in NA next season, but regardless it's not like he's getting complacent against children if he stays, he'd still be playing with professionals.

Hertl=more physical but less offensively skilled Kopitar? I haven't seen him play much and in the games I have he has been very impressive. I think he can be a legit 1st line center if he pans out. Is he very good defensively?

Not at all like Kopitar, I don't think.

I'm starting to think he might be better as a winger. He's played RW with Slavia and I think he's actually more of a goal-scorer than a playmaker, although he can do both well. He has the work ethic and the smarts to be a good two-way player, but he's really raw in that department.

I know I'm biased, but I just don't see a way he doesn't become a top-6 forward. I could definitely be wrong, because I'm just so excited about this kid, but he's so strong and has such good offensive instincts, I just don't see a way that he busts.

Thanks for the insight Jux. Is there a reason why he doesn't play center? I'm excited for two reasons: he has very good upside and DW likely isn't to trade him.

It happens.

In my day, there were so many players that dominated at the lower levels, that scouts from major juniors and even the NHL thought highly of. Then, they went to the pros, and that one or two areas of their game that they were deficient in were exploited, rendering them ineffective.

Slavia plays a vet at center. Hertl's versatile, and his defensive game isn't complete. If I knew how to speak Czech, I'd try to find out more.

But remember, you can watch Hertl play if you want. Link/scheule for Slavia's playoff games are about 4 pages back in this thread. He's a fun guy to watch.

The difference is that Hertl isn't a 6'2'' kid dominating a major junior league. He's a first liner on a playoff team in the Czech Extraliga. Dmitry Jaskin, whom everyone thinks so highly of? He scored like two points on the same team as Hertl last season while being a year older. The one knock on Hertl is his skating, and even that seems to be improving. He's at least average. And at the WJC, he was dangerous all tourney long, against every team he played including the US.

I just don't see him not making the NHL. I could be wrong, I just don't see it.

I don't have time for that. I'm GM Hatrick Marleau and you are assistant GM/Head Scout, which means that is your job. Now get back to work!

Hes dominating grown men in a pro league. I do see your point..no one thought much of Coyle until he left college and went to the Q and put up huge numbers on one of the best teams in the CHL. Hertl is very impressive, hes big and strong and tenacious on the puck and throws his weight around.
