Enough of sodding dump and chase transition - Zucc has the passing skills (and hockey sense) to potentially break through some of the neutral-zone clogging defences that teams seem to have been favouring against the Rangers as of late.

Defense (as a winger) can be taught relatively easily. Hopefully Torts is at the end of his tether when it comes to his team failing to generate any sort of offence, and will give Zucc a bit of a longer leash this time (or give his line a winger with fierce backchecking ability - i.e. Hagelin).

If anything, this should bump Kreider back to the AHL (or Boyle to the press box, Miller to center) - he's looked thoroughly mediocre in his last few games. Eager to contribute, but making poor decision after poor decision while anywhere near the puck.
Disagree on the part about Kreider. He has skated very well and been very involved. Completely different from his last stint.

If anything have Zucc gives us 3 good lines WITH Kreider on them. I don't know if Zucc could play the LW, but I would like to see:

Kreider-Richards-Nash
Hagelin-Stepan-Callahan
Zucc-Boyle-Gaborik
Pyatt-Newbury-Asham

I want to keep Kreider with Nash and Richards. I think those two will buy him time and space to shoot. They've only been together one game, hopefully torts gives them more time. And I hope Zucc can buy Gaborik time and space with his great passing ability. Boyle in front of the net screening the goalie. Gaborik can pinpoint his shots, so if Boyle can be effective in front of the net, you'll see an increase in production there.

*shrug* Watched them both - I saw what I saw. He looked more involved, but the quality wasn't there - if he won a board battle, he generally rang it around to the boards to an unmarked opposing defenceman; he was regularly (not every time like his previous call-ups, but enough for me to notice) chasing the puck/too deep in the defensive zone, leading to extended possession for the opposition; he keeps making a slew of small errors, like boxing players in on the wrong side - letting them outlet it rather than forcing them into bad decisions.

Don't get me wrong, he's a physical horse, and a great prospect - just the little things as above add up; it's the reason Miller was still with the club while he was sent down, in my opinion (Miller makes large, glaring errors every now and then, but does all the little things correctly).

I really wonder if Kreider and MZA would have a good chemistry together. One thrives with the puck on his stick. The other does not. They play opposite wings. Kreider is used to playing with some undersized guys at BC.

One thing about Zucc. In a televised competition last summer between 8 top athletes in Norway he ended up in last place. All kinds of physical tests over a week, but also included stuff like shooting and car racing. But it doesn't mean he's in bad shape, his upper strength sucks, but he's a pretty good runner. Size matters I guess...

I agree, but hasn't the Tortorella years (and this one especially) been easily summarized as square pegs into round holes?

Kreider-Step-Nash
Hags-Richards-Gabby
Zucc-Miller-Cally
Asham-Boyle-Powe

Extra: Pyatt, Newbury?

I think those would be pretty solid lines

Not picking on you, but I've seen a number of lines with Asham-Boyle-Powe. Why are the wingers on their off wings??

Look at the prices has-beens like Morrow and Murray are getting. It's going to be tough for Sather to make a meaningful move without messing with the farm. I'll take Zuccarello happily.

I really think Powe should be sitting. He has played hard, but that can only get you so far. I like Pyatt's size.

I forgot about Miller in my earlier post so for the 3rd and 4th lines:

Zucc-Miller-Gaborik
Pyatt-Boyle-Asham

Can we afford to lose Powe on the pk tho?

I would be very happy giving those lines a chance. I mean I feel bad for Hagelin because he is gonna have to pretty much hunt down every puck on that "first" line. At least with lines 2 and 3 you have a mix of some creativity, speed, hands and grit. You would think the fourth line would be serviceable and be able to play a grinding style of hockey. JUST PLEASE DO NOT PUT NASH-RICHARDS-GABORIK LINE TOGETHER AGAIN!!!!

I dont understand this at all, he had an out clause with the team when he signed the contract, this whole release thing shouldnt be an issue at all. KHL won't risk any tension with the NHL over this, i assume its sorted out by the end of the night.

I think Powe's PK ability plus the fact he's a better skater than Pyatt, should get him on the 4th line LW.

Out clause after the first year of his contract.
The way i read this is that the season is not officially over until the mentioned date

Awesome moment. Zuccs was so happy. Hilarious how the smallest guy on the team leapt into the arms of the biggest guy on the team.

He's on our reserve list, so I don't think so.

Then Sather is a genius.... We essentially stashed a top 6 talent in Europe. Now Torts has to play the guy. I know he's small but people should know this guy can dominate at an elite level of play. He knows the deal with smaller ice surface now, gotta hope for some ridiculous chemistry with someone. Nash, Krieder, Hags....

You keep saying this but yet you slot Boyle on the 3rd line. There's a disconnect here.
