We could have afford to make that deal, since we have 3 second round pick. Loosing one isn't THAT bad. You still have 2 more.

Personally i'd rather face the Pens. Sure they have more firepower upfront and 2 of the best players in the league but i'd rather face the Pens defense and Fleury than the B's defense with Chara and Rask (who is a much better goalie than Fleury and is stellar when he's hot). A series against Boston would also be more emotionally and physically draining than one against the Pens.

That said in the end i don't care who the Habs face. If they want to go far they will have to prove that they can take on the best teams in the league. I thought they were dead meat against both Washington and Pittsburgh 3 years ago but they overcame the odds so anything is possible.

Of course Montreal can afford to trade away their 2nd rounders. But at the current costs (it's obviously a sellers market, as per Shero) I don't think it's worth it. Can they? Sure. Should they? Debatable unless it fills a real need.

Look at our roster if healthy:

Ryder-Plekanec-Gionta
Pacioretty-Desharnais-Gallagher
Galchenyuk-Eller-Bourque
Moen-Dumont-Prust
White/Armstrong

Gorges-Subban
Markov-Emelin
Diaz/Boullion/Tinordi/Kaberle

Price
Budaj

The point of my post was that we are set in goal, on D, and in the top 9. If we need to add anything it's a heavy, I think it would be worth it to add one for wednesday personally, as that game could get ugly quick.

We're in need for a tough D-man. If you think we have a real chance to make it far in the playoffs, you do that deal.

Right now, we have Tinordi. He's good, but is he ready to be playing a regular role in the playoffs? I don't know.

I would not have been mad to make that deal. We would still have 2 second round picks and next year draft will suck, so no big problem there.

In a sellers' market, I'm looking forward to what MB can get for Kaberle.

It's Kaberle. Name value + the hope that their system will fit him good means that a GM somewhere will want the guy. We could get as much as a late first rounder for him or a decent prospect.

If we can get ANYTHING for Kaberle, then we should all go to the Bell Centre and praise our new savior, Bergevin.

Better yet would be to use what we get for Kaberle to get a real asset for a PO run. That would be too much to ask for imo.

Not sure if serious?

Kaberle has buyout written all over him. Look to Bergevin calling up Pateryn and Tinordi to play instead of dressing Kaberle as proof of that. No team is going to touch him because he'll just become their buyout at the end of the year.

I think if any team trades for him we're looking at a 5th coming back...max.

Pretty bad deal by Pittsburgh imho. I can't believe some people here would have made the same trade... Murray isn't a great defensemen by any means, at least not anymore.

4th rounder at best, and I'm feeling very optimistic. He's available and everyone knows it, if he's not gone yet then its unlikely he's going to have takers.

A late 1st for Kaberle eh? Well, no one can say he isn't aiming for the moon.

MS should go after Deryk Engelland from the Pens. He's like the perfect fit. Tough stay at home D who can play a regular shift and drop against any HW. What's not to like ?

He's now the 7th-8th D in Pittsburgh so i doubt he would cost the moon. Then again he may not be available as the Pens may want to keep him for depth purposes

There's always interest in power play specialists. MB should look west though. A second round pick is not out of the question.

Columbus needs help on the PP for example.

If we get something for Kaberle it won't be because MB is a genius, it will be because there are more buyers than sellers and some buyers will be taking risks.

If Pitts went after Murray to bench Engelland, there must be something here. So, you didn't want Murray but you want Engelland? The guy who's gonna get benched for Murray.

I would be eccstasic if the Habs could get a 2nd for Kaberle.

But unfortunately i don't see that happening due to the buyer having to take on his contract. I don't think the Habs can get anything higher than a 4th for him and anything lower wouldn't surprise either.

If we get a second for Kaberle i'd be thrilled. What a draft we would have.

his contract is not Gomez's or Briere's...wouldn't be the end of the world to take...plus a big market(Detroit?) could add him and then buy him out for 3 mil this summer. Would cost them about 4 mil in cash.

lol

If Bergie got a 1st rounder for Kaberle, I would jump on the 1st plane to Mtl, grab a cab downtown, get "Bergevin is God" tatooed on my butt and run naked down Ste. Catherines screaming his name

At this point, I trade Kaberle for anything that is offered to me. Even a conditional 7th. Gives us another amnesty buyout to re-think things this summer.

seriously. I'd be tickled with a 3rd rounder, esp with Senor Timmins drafting

Well we should try to trade Kaberle and Moen to Pittsburgh. Probably could get a couple of 1sts.

I made a thread a month ago asking about the value of Engelland

http://hfboards.hockeysfuture.com/sh....php?t=1360963

Semms like many Pens fans didn't want to trade him as he was doing a good job. Things may have changed though so i just bumped the thread to get the pulse on him.
