I would think that Clowe has negative trade value this year. Why would anybody give up anything to get him?

Fun fact of the day:

Martin Brodeur has more goals than Ryane Clowe

He's played better than Murray, for what that is worth.

He's been injured, and really his problems are all in his head. A change of scenery and I almost guarantee he scores a goal his first game.

How many people how Brenden Morrow had no value, yet returned a highly touted defenseman? When the market is as unpredictable as trade deadline, you really don't know how much you'll return.

We need picks, prospects, and young players. Preferably forwards and forward prospects.

Wouldn't be surprised to see Jumbo traded. DW said that we are a pass first team in a shoot first league. Jumbo is the Captain so he might want a culture change.

I don't know. But I fully expect to see at least 200 Thorton to Leafs trade proposals on the 'Trade Rumors and Free Agent Talk' board.

Why trade Pavelski?

He's going to dump players, Clowe, Handzus, Boyle, Pavelski would be my bets (sometime between now and draft).

Pavelski is one of the most if not the most versatile forwards on the roster. He eats up PK minutes, runs point on the PP, is a faceoff wizard, and oh yeah, scored 31 goals last season. The others, i can see moving. Pavs though, that would just be stupid. They need more good forwards, not less.

Pavelski for 2 firsts + Raymond + Schroder/any prospect not named Jensen, Corrado or Lack

Edit: or 1st + Jensen + Ebbett

Everything you said is correct. No one wants to trade Pavelski, in a vacuum anyway.

Problem is he has a year left on his contract and without knowing if he can be re-signed, or afforded if he is, he may be available. If we trade Jumbo in the off-season, than no, Pav's stays. We can't have 4 'slow' forwards in the top-6 though (Jumbo, Pavs, Couture, Clowe right now). Two will have to go, Clowe is one, the other is going to be either Jumbo or Pavs. That's why it's brought up. Plus Pavs has no trade clauses in his contract, Jumbo has a full NMC.

I think most Sharks fans want Pavelski to stay (myself included). But here's the thing... Pavelski, unlike Thorton, Marleau, and Havlat, doesn't have a NTC/NMC. He would get a very handsome return on the trade market to right team. We are thin on prospects, especially forwards. With that in mind, Sharks fans would understand that there could be a lot of benefits to trading Pavelski.

Also we could use more natural wingers.

I'm not sure I would characterize Couture as a slow. Clowe is no longer in the top 6 even when healthy. And with Boyle likely being moved this summer, the Sharks would have plenty of cap space. Especially when you look at Thornton and Marleau definitely taking at least a million dollar pay cut and Pavs making about a million more. Couture will be making substantially more, yes. But moving Boyle should counteract that.
I could see something like this for contracts
Jumbo:2 years- 11 million (5.5 cap hit)
Marleau: 2 years-10 million (5 cap hit)
Pavs: 4 years- 21 million (5.25 cap hit)
Couture 5 years- 30 million (6 cap hit)

No ****ing clue. Apparently it's a coaching decision that Wilson is having no part of. I think he'll transition back to defense very soon. Probably as soon as either 1) Clowe gets healthy or 2) we trade for a forward. Clowe should be healthy very soon.

I agree, the Sharks could be right back in contention next year or the year after that, with a completely different team, with the hauls they could get for a guy like Thornton.

With him already making 4 million and his numbers last year and all, he is due for a pay increase. It wouldn't quite be superstar money, but it's definitely fair for a really good player. I expect around 4.75-5.25 range

You don't base a contract off how someone played two years ago. I would expect a small raise of 250-500k

I also wouldn't base it off of a 48 game shortened chaotic season. Just my opinion though
