I'd rather keep Smid too, I'm just saying I can see Tambo and crew reverting to usual ways and dealing him if the Wings came calling with that 1st rounder.

IMO, moving Smid only makes sense if he's in a package for a better defenseman, like in the post I made a page or two back.

Moving Smid for a draft pick offers us nothing to make the team better.

He's the 7th D.

And we're pulling Simpson out of school if we need a call-up.

Nice, they can't lose....if the rest of the league takes the year off.

Actually speaking of the defense and UFA, Ryan O'Byrne is a UFA, young, huge and physical. He's also a RH shot, clearly not a top-4 guy, but depending on how this team shakes out post-deadline, any interest.

I wouldn't mind seeing what he can bring, if there's space. He's better then Potter and Peckham.

Brian Bishop is worth a 2nd rounder at best in this goaltender market.

And when you consider what Douglas Murray just brought in, Smid is worth a valuable prospect and a 1st from a playoff contender.

There isn't a trade there, IMO.
Ben Bishop.I dont think Brian is worth more than a 2nd either

GP SA GA GAA W L SV SV %
Ben Bishop OTT 10 31 25 2.62 6 4 293 .921

Pretty good numbers this year. All this behind an AHL roster team. Some are saying he could push to be a #1 next year or at least a good 1B. With him and Dubie I think the Oilers would be set up nicely in goal.

Solid numbers, completely worthy of a 2nd.

I guess if he's been good for them, I wonder once he gets North of 32 what kind of game will he bring.

Apparently, he's become an elite two-way player. +18 rating on the season. I wonder where that effort level was in Washington...

No....but a good starting point? What else does it take? Are you looking for a tender to push Dubie or be the guy if called on?

I guess, but I don't really see the need to give up any significant assets for a guy that Could be that. The Oilers should be able to find someone more proven to do the same thing for less.

Wow that's a lot for Semin. Hall and Eberle contracts are looking pretty good right now.

The Oilers shouldn't be thinking about moving players like Smid at this stage. Tambellini is a horrid GM and has been ever since he got the job but if he moves Smid instead of Whitney then he'll have sunk to and established a new low.

He was hanging out with Ovechkin too much. The poor off-ice work ethic of his countryman and captain really wore off on Semin.

Actually no, they're not. Anyone who says that doesn't understand the difference between RFA and UFA.

UFA vs RFA, and 3rd contract vs 2nd contract. Different ball-game altogether. Additionally, we can only hope that Eberle and Hall turn into the consistent scorer than Semin already is. I don't like Semin as a player, and hate that contract he just signed if I'm a Carolina fan. I'm just pointing out that you can't really compare Semin's contract with Hall and Eberle's.
