Pete has laid out such a solid foundation that nearly any (not all) player can be thrown out onto any line and situation and know what they have to do.

Regardless of the 1-3-1 and the defense Tampa had to work with, there was no real set structure in place. A real lack of systemic basics to fall back on when anything failed.

They're a hard team to watch when they're losing. They're offense has the ability to throw a lot at you, obviously, but Pete has laid the groundwork for a really sound 5-man unit.

It always feels like a bunch of individuals trying to make peace with each other when they're out on the ice.

Granted, that would be hard to infer by my initial statement. But there are about 1,000 other things I've hated about watching Tampa games during the short stinted Boucher era.

Curious - If Merrill opts to turn pro and signs a try out contract with Albany, that could free up a guy to move up to be our #8 guy (Urbom, Gelinas, Burlon, hell even Jay leach (no!)) and give Lou perhaps some comfort to move a guy. If Murray can fetch 2 2nd rounders, I'd take a 2nd a 5th for Tallinder.

I really like the direction that DeBoer's coaching is taking this team.
he seems like a bench tosser too much to me for the Devils. (Ftorek for our newer fans)

No coach is perfect. I like DeBoer's style, but he also had his issues despite a lack of talent/depth down in Florida. So far. I'd like to see Lou and Vanderbeek get him some better horses in the offseason at forward.

I've always felt a lot of coaches do better in their second and even third stints. Being a coach is not just about being a teacher, but learning along the way as well. Look at a lot of HCs who have won Cups or coaching the Finals around the league now.

If anything we are trading for an upgrade at forward.

Agreed. I would not trade Larsson for most players who would be offered for him.

Yup, obviously Ponikorovsky, Kostopoulus, Loktionov, and D'Agastini weren't enough.....

The offense has some talent, they just need to click whereas anyone watching the games this year can see that talent is something we really don't have much of on D. A #2-3 guy (Greene) is your #1, you two PKers are slugs (Atrain and Sal), your offensive PP quarterback is a big liability 5 on 5, and a 20 year old is, god forbid, inconsistent at times....

And the team immediately improved after that

Arnott was a straight dump, even though they got the great Dave Steckel back in the deal too.

He didn't "sell" Langenbrunner, it was a culture change. He needed to go at any cost.

Arnott specifically asked to go to a contender, and Lou wanted to get back some assets after he spent them getting Arnott here in the first place.

Wholeheartedly agree with this. Our biggest missing piece is a bonafide #1 D-man...that would have probably won us the cup last year.

im not sure if I agree with this one, although I want to. Our D played out of their minds in the playoffs; however, every single one of our defensemen seems to be much too one dimensional outside of the month of may. either we have guys like volch who cant do anything with the puck, or a guy like zids who would be a stud if he didnt make some of the worst mistakes I have ever seen an able bodied devil make in years.

Wrong.

Boucher was fired cause he was handed a borderline NHL caliber blueline and a goalie tandem that is just brutal. Mix both of those things together and you have a team that has high hopes with studs like Stamkos, Hedman, Vinny, MSL, etc... who are going nowhere.

The locker room was shocked when they announced on sunday morning that Boucher was canned. Martin St-Louis gave a interview on RDS, saying that the news cought everyone by surprise and that he didn't deserve the faith he got.

If he would be wiling to land a job as a assistant, he would be perfect for us. He's a wizard when it comes to operating a PP and lord knows how we can use someone to help our mediocre PP. I would garantee you this... Kovy would be playing on the left half board, ala Stamkos, instead of the point.
