I think I could deal with that if Laughton can handle third line center duties.

Ryan-Giroux-Voracek
Hartnell-Schenn-Simmonds
Gagne (UFA?)-Laughton-Read
Rinaldo-Talbot-McGinn (or someone)

Only trade Couturier if it really fixes the defense. Otherwise, be patient with him.

Especially when Ryan can be had for free next summer, makes no sense to trade Coots for him and not a dman.

He's signed through 2014-2015.

I don't want to trade Couturier for a luxury. I rather trade him for defense if we're going to move him.

Besides I rather wait until Ryan hits the free agent market. I know it's not a guarantee he will but if he does we'll have a good shot at landing him without giving up assets. If he resigns with Anaheim, oh well he's not really a need anyway.

Oh my bad, thought he had one year left. Thanks. Well now that all but ensures a trade for Bobby at some point before next season.

Yea, I am not keen on trading strength for strength, ie F for F. That is just bad asset management when you know you need D.

Ryan - Giroux - Voracek line would be insane, but Ryan is soon gonna be a UFA and odds are that he'll sign here, it's almost written in the sky. Couturier, on the other hand, has a lot of RFA years ahead of him. I'm not sure about this one. Ryan is a very good goalscorer.

Since when are our forwards a strength? We generate no offense 5v5. It's a major problem.

We don't score a lot, true, but our forward core is very good. We're playing a defensive game right now because our D isn't that great. Also, the transition game could be better and generate offense.

It's not a strength because the younger guys slumped this year in their new roles. That could change next when they grow into them.

Besides Couturier's having a bad season but its way too early to give up on him. If I'm moving him it's for defense which is weaker than our forwards.

Instantly, I'm not sure. Also I would like let it be known that I am not campaigning for Couturier to be traded for a forward (hence the response of "I think I would be ok with that." I don't know of any #1 defenders on the market at this point in time that we would be able to flip for Coots. What I do know is that there is a log-jam at center (Giroux, Schenn, Couturier, Cousins, Laughton) right now and not much on the wing. I understand defense is also a problem, but I don't think the likes of Pietrangelo or others are on the market. Yandle looks like he may be available, but is he going to be had for that same price? I personally don't think I would be shopping Couturier but if Ryan for Coots is an option (or Coots for a #1 defender) I think I would do it.

I'd probably do that. But it kind of destroys our offensive depth unless Laughton has a strong rookie season.

Cousins is more than likely going to be playing the wing at the pro level. I don't think he's really a factor in the log-jam at center.

He better not trade our 2014 first with the draft happening at the Wells Fargo center.

Eh, if he had to, I think he would. They'd probably just trade a 2015 1st + 2014 2nd to get a "home" pick in 2014.

Ryan-Giroux-Voracek
Hartnell-Schenn-Simmonds
Talbot-Laughton-McGinn
Zolnierczyk-Wellwood-Rinaldo

Schenn-Timonen
Coburn-Grossmann
Sbisa-Meszaros

Bryzgalov
Backup G

With the above proposed and a Briere buyout or trade

(Obviously we also retain our high 1st this year, so whoever that is may potentially crack the lineup as well)

I'm just not convinced that the Read 2014 1st / Sbisa thing makes sense.

Couturier + 2013 2nd + 2014 2nd for Ryan + 2014 3d? Something like that.

Not a chance.

terrible deal for Phi.

Why on earth do we want to sell couturier so frigging low....

Look at what Carolina paid for Staal....a guy who they had a HUGE upperhand in getting anyway...

Well, I don't really see how Bobby Ryan can be considered buying low.

Buying stupidly? Maybe. But low? I don't really see it.
