Lundqvist will be remembered as one of the best Rangers ever and its not even up for debate. People who rag on him are uneducated morons. He's done more for this franchise than anyone seems to give him credit for. Like it was said by nevesis, shut up and enjoy it while it lasts because the likelihood we see a goaltender of his caliber play for this team again is not very likely.
Great post.

I wouldn't blame Hank for leaving if he wanted to win a cup, but I don't exactly see it happening.

His # will be up in the rafters at MSG in the future.

Believe me I don't want him going anywhere, but I wouldn't hold it against him or blame him at all if he bounced.
Goalies are different, see Richter, Brodeur, etc. If he leaves it'll be for half a season before retirement from the NHL. I bet he goes back to play one more season in Sweden before he sets up camp in some other NA City.

He loves NY, case closed.

Lundqvist isn't leaving, but his prime is sadly being wasted. He's been a brilliant goaltender from day 1, one of the best in the league virtually his entire career. So far, he has had one good team in front of him: last season.

It'll come down to him and Leetch for best career in Rangers history when it is all said and done.

I just hope the ineptitude that surrounds this team gets lucky and somehow puts together a winner. I'm not overly confident. And it will be one of the worst days in Rangerland, which is saying alot, if he retires without a Cup.

Still, public opinion of those players was that they would be lifers with their original teams. A little less "predictable" and emotions get directed differently, but same general outcome. A lot of players express they want to stay in their current city, because why are they going to openly poo on that city/team? Not really a good look. Even after being traded or leaving on their own, I can't think of many players that come out to the media and say "Yeah, they really treated me like crap there and everything sucked." People still hate Heatley and Hossa for how they conducted themselves (although Hossa was more or less open about chasing a Cup).

I don't get why everyone makes it sound like NYC is the only big-bill city with a hockey team, and that NYC is the only place Lundqvist could ever possibly like living in/playing. In a universe where Quick didn't exist and they still somehow won the Cup with a Niemi-esque goalie, you don't think an offer from LA would even be remotely enticing?

The guy is pissed off and has every right to be. Seems silly to read any more into it than that.

No **** he's pissed off. The last time I remember him this angry was the season we missed the playoffs by a point on the last game of the season...

Great goalies (and Hank certainly applies) tend to age pretty well. So while it's definitely not fun to see what might be the best years of his career wasted, I'm not totally convinced these are his best years yet. Granted last year might have been his peek, but I don't think it's out of the question to think these next 5 years can be as good or better than the previous 5 (which is pretty exciting). He's a great positional goaltender, and his deep in the crease style gives him more time to react when his reflexes slip a bit. Saying look at Hasek and Broudeur in their 30's might not be fair. But look at Tim Thomas. Why can't that be the greatest Swedish goaltender who ever lived?

Believe me, I understand Hank's frustration (if it really exists). But I do not feel like we're running out of time with him.

If this team valued Hank for what he is our d would have more grit and not allow the bs that takes place in front of him every game. I believe he is sick of the soft play in front of him!

I think his compete level is so high that he really can't stand to lose.

But, you have to admit. He's 100% correct in calling out his defense in front him. They need to be more physical.

He's 100% correct in calling out the offense as well. 1, 2 goals per game just isn't cutting it.

Dejected enough to bolt for free agency? I don't think so...Guy is the king of NY right now.

he has an incredible high compete level, and has the attitude of never being satisfied, which what makes him one of the greats, and it shows when you see guys like Brodeur, patrick roy and haseks of the world want to stay in the game as long as they do..

hes the face of the franchise, loves ny, loves his fashion.. he wont leave, but it should make the team around him want to do more.. he should call out his teammates.. hes the rock of the team and demands the best out of everyone!!

I've said this to my friends and ill say it here. Henrik doesn't deserve this nonsense. He deserves to be on a team that can score goals for him and win. If I'm henrik I'd make it clear that either torts goes or I want out. See how fast **** gets changed.

Lol cmon man...

1. Hank already makes 6.5 million per.. So if he gets a raise to like 8.5 from somone.. thats only an extra 2mill? Im pretty sure we will have the cap room to resign him. Its not like hes going from 3mill to 8.5... Most of his money is already accounted for...

2. its more likely he leaves for a team that is well built and has a strong history of competeing for cups every year.. So I doubt the flyers, isles or leafs are on the list... Detroit however? Different story.

While I tend to agree with everyone on this, the one take away I get from Hank is that he loves winning..... more than a little bit. The guy wants a cup. Don't under estimate that.

While I would be more than a little shocked to see him ask for a trade, it would not bowl me over. Again, this guy wants a cup. And a guy this good, that wants to win that bad, I keep on my team no matter what.

No matter what.

I don't blame him one bit for calling out this **** show of a team.

For 5 years he battled just to sneak in the playoffs, all with constant roster turnover. Last season's team finishes where they do, and management basically blew it up (50% forward turnover is blowing it up).

Combine that with how ****** the team is playing and boom, pissed off Henke.

As loyal as Henrik is to the franchise, I can't see a guy as competitive as him staying put on this sinking team. He'll want to win eventually and prolong his legacy as one of the best goalies of all time.

I just don't think it's Hank, either. Something's going on in this locker room, whether it's players not getting along with each other, or if players and coaches aren't on the same page. Something just seems off, which would make sense for how they're playing on the ice.

This "team" is nothing like last year's, which was a true band of brothers. This year seems like a bunch of guys getting to know each other through icebreakers.

Hank knows what he's doing, talking to the press like he has. He wants something done. A system change, a coaching change, a trade...something. He's always a fierce competitor who speaks passionately, but this is different. He's letting management know something's up.

I don't think he's calling out the team as a whole. Just most of it. It's disgusting and he has every right to stand up and take a hard line. He's doing it with a bit of tact as well. I like that.

He has no right to be down on his team, he hasn't exactly been Hasek this year himself.

Well yeah I mean sub-par for Hank is still a level most goalies will never reach. But I can't remember the last time he really stole a game we had no business winning, something he used to do with frightening regularity.
