Change is good after back-to-back shutouts.

You'd think after winning the Stanley Cup in dominating fashion that some of you would recognize the importance of players like Colin Fraser and Brenden Morrow on the bottom lines, but clearly that's asking too much.

But hey...you should feel free to go on with that whole ridiculous claim.

And fyi the bench made 3-4 horrible calls for line changes during the game.
I guess that excuses him from lazily skating from one side of the rink to the bench while play is still going on. That's like putting your team in a shorthanded situation. The guy is far from the bench and his teammate is waiting for him to get within five feet so that they wouldn't be called for too many men. But yeah, it's so ridiculous for a fan to expect someone to give a little bit of effort to go sit his ass on the bench. Yet somehow he ends up being a healthy scratch yet again this season.

We need a goon on the fourth line. If we're not going to score goals lets atleast win the staged fights.

What is Ryan Flinn doing these days?

Penner's game is really underrated around here. He does some annoying things but the guy makes good use of his body and is strong as hell. Not easy to knock him off the puck. He's lost his finish but it's no coincidence that the second line gets all the scoring chances they do with him on it.

I really don't know how any Kings fan can like Dustin Penner. Maybe they just sensationalize his contributions in the playoffs last year because the team finally won a Cup? Do you remember how atrocious he was after we traded for him at the deadline and then in the playoffs versus the Sharks? How about last season in the regular season, do you remember how awful he was?

He is antithetical to everything Dean Lombardi and now Darryl Sutter have tried to build in LA. There's a reason that Sutter has a very low tolerance for him. There's a reason he was a healthy scratch for a while when Sutter first came in last year. There's a reason MacTavish chewed him a new one in Edmonton.

The guy has always been a dog and will continue to be a dog because you cannot teach heart, dedication, and work ethic. You either have it or you don't. And obviously Penner is lacking in all those areas.

I cannot wait for Penner to be kicked to the curb and replaced by someone else in the offseason. He is one of my least favorite players in the NHL. I am very happy to see Toffoli in over him.

Mostly, but he's chirpy and gets under opponents skin so somewhat effective.

Sensationalize his contributions is totally wrong. The guy made big contributions and for the first time earned his pay. His line was very productive, and yes, he worked hard.

No one is unimportant. Everyone has a role

He was changing after a very long shift and the puck was behind him. It had nothing to do with laziness.

Penner is big, but definitely not strong. In fact, you can usually find him on the ice or losing a puck battle to a much weaker player. If the Kings do anything at the deadline I hope it is to replace him with someone who can at least keep up with the speed of NHL gameplay.

I've also noticed that he's constantly hitting the ice. It's pretty well known he's not a great skater but it really seems like he has balance issues. Dustin is a very likeable guy, in the locker room and by fans but his on ice production with the Kings has been lacking from the start. And I completely agree about his post season "production" being sensationalized. He played reasonably well and 2 out of the 3 goals he scored were virtually empty netters. There shouldn't have been a place on this team for him this year with the emergence of King/Clifford/Nolan but I think management got a little carried away with the whole - bring back the same roster from last years magical season.

For much of that I thought it was an excellent description of the other Dustin...

Love Penner's personality, hate Penner's work ethic. The guy seems so on and off.....one minute he's really using his body, protecting the puck and making things happen, the next his body looks like a liability because he is going so slow. Sutter made absolutely the correct call putting Toffoli in over him last night.

And the thought that Colin Fraser "doesn't do anything" and is "unimportant" displays a lack of understanding of the importance of roles in hockey, and makes me happy that posters here don't coach this team. If you think Penner could bring HALF of what Fraser does to that line's role, then sorry, but you're nuts.

Last night was Toffolis 4th game. 1 more and the Kings would burn a year from his contract. Should they play him out the rest of the season and playoffs or send him down so he can play the whole season next year?

I say keep him this year will only help him adjust plus he's doin everything as advertised, he's a threat on the ice but once he settles down all those misses will be goals and the watchout!!!

The number of people who think this is how it works really astonishes me.

You're thinking juniors, not the pro leagues.

Wouldn't he burn a year anyway, being a pro now, playing the whole year in Manchester?

I feel bad for Penner. He's improved a ton over the beginning of the year. Hopefully the only reason he sat is that he just doesn't have the foot speed and quickness to be as effective against the Hawks.

penner has played real well this season even though his stats dont show it, he's money in the playoffs and that boys and girls is what these LA KINGS are all about nowadays
