Yup, stick a fork in 'em, they're done.

I just hope that they still at least play like there is a playoff spot open for them, that's all...I still think they should play with playoff intensity in order to feel that kind of emotion so that if we ever do get into the playoffs, they will at least have some semblance of experience of playoff intensity.

Also, I agree with those who are saying the west is all defense...its extremely boring hockey, and I find it funny how everybody back in the day was bad-mouthing NJ for "inventing" the trap, and now everybody realizes that its the best way to improve your odds of winning, so now all the teams play it...yeah, that's some fantastic entertainment value there.

I guess its true what they say, at first you mock it, then you imitate it. Hockey is just too stifling for me to watch nowadays, I just cant take it anymore, its the equivalent of soccer on ice (which is probably why there is so much diving in the game too, have to "create" offense somehow, so how better to do it than to "draw" a penalty...it makes the game look pathetic IMO). Anyways, didn't mean to rant there, just some random observations.

Oh, this twisted, cruel fate.

Ah well. Once more unto the breach, dear friends.

4 points out.
1-2 games in hand over most of the important teams exception being San Jose.
18 games to go.
Only 4 of those 18 games are against teams that I consider playoff bubble teams. I think that we're all fighting for that 8th spot. I'm convinced that the teams in seventh and upwards have their spot locked up.

It's not impossible, but Edmonton would have to go on a real hot streak to be able to make the playoffs.

Very much leaning towards no now.

I'd say the loss tonight pretty much puts on end to our playoff hopes. We would have to go on a pretty good tear and it doesn't seem like that is going to happen. Looks like another year of watching the draft rankings

We're done. The bright side is, we made it March before we had it figured out!

Yeah, thanks to the first three/four months that were flushed down the toilet.

Let's go Sens/Jays!

How obscure. The Oilers are sitting pretty at 4.5%

Moves are going to be made, people. I can see that 4.5 turning to a 5.7, and hell if we round to whole numbers that's a 6!

So 17 games left. It is basically impossible. we would have to go at least 11-6, which would still probably not do it, and I can't see that happening.

Sigh, disappointing year....

Oh well, looks like we did not make it this year. Don't worry, there is something positive to see here.

The most disappointing part of that photo, second to the person in it, is that the other teams have all move up in the standings and improved. Oilers have improved to 6th but could fall into the top 5 after Calgary's next game. And I'm thinking Tampa and Philly eventually pass us.

Columbus and New York might not even draft in the top ten and Montreal and Toronto are in the playoffs.

Three first overalls in a row, Eberle, MPS and Schultz, the performance is embarrassing. The blame has to be on the coaches and management.

I hate to keep bringing up playoffs and I understand it is likely not happening
But looking at the standings today we stand 3 points back of 8th with 16 games to go
My question is how many of those 16 games would we need to win in order to have a good chance at the post season?
Do you think a 9-5-2 record would do it?

At what point do you start to blame the players?

Are playoffs still makeable? Yes. But not by the Oilers.

The only guys left on the team since the Oilers started sucking are Horcoff and Hemsky. There is like 25-30% turnover every season.

The players have gotten a lot of the blame the last 6 seasons. When the group of players is not good enough year, after year, after year, after year, perhaps there are bigger problems?

The coaches can't coach talent, their gameplan is the same it has been for a couple of years now. And the GMs haven't assembled any size in the top 6 forwards or top pairing dmen. Yes you can blame some of it on the players that are borderline NHLers; Smyth, Petrall, Potter, Harti, Belanger, Whitney, Jones but its not their fault they are on an NHL team.

when the roster is full of actual, quality NHL players. you can't say that right now. at least half the team are over-the-hill vets and AHL calibre players. that is the fault of management.

Pretty much this. Unless all the kids get insanely hot, or Tambo actually does his job and adds some size on the LW in the top 9 and a left handed puck moving top 4 D, like today, the playoffs are just a dream for this season. Yet again...

Most likely cutoff line is 54 points. We are going to need 23 points from our last 16 games. So something like 11-3-1 or some variation thereof. Absolute worst we can do is 5 losses in 16 games.

We're not mathematically eliminated yet, but Rita is warming up. If they can go on a 5-6 game winning streak starting now they'd have a shot, but with CLB, VAN, CAL, CAL, VAN on deck, can't see us winning more than 2 of the next 5.
