Yeahhhhh. I don't like that Semin contract either, but it's looking like that sort of contract might be the new norm. I guess we'll see how things go when the CBA has really settled in.

So the going rate for a 20 goal scorer nowadays is $7m per? Good lord these guys are insane.

Over his career he averages 33.6 Goals per 82 game season. Not exactly a 20 goal scorer. He's a stellar 2 way player as well that was villified in Washington

Well I was going on this current season, but thanks for the history lesson. We'll see how stellar he is after signing that donkey of a contract.

He got complacent in Washington. Now that he has some security in Carolina, it will be interesting to see if he gets complacent again.

I don't know that he will. Based on everything I heard in the sports media here, he's probably better off away from OV and probably needed a fresh start somewhere new. Maybe he'll lapse, maybe he won't. I'll assume he's matured.

If he has matured and keeps up his play, the contract is worth it. a 30-35 goal scored who plays good defense can be worth a lot, especially with the new term limits.

TL;DR version: We'll have to see if it's worth it, hard for me to say now.

This is the new norm.

Like I said before, I'm expecting Giroux to come in at $8.5+.

Carolina has had great success with guys in need of change of scenery (Ruutu/Pitkanen/etc)

It is a very good place to live especially for older players who either will start a family or have a family

It seems Semin like many others has finally found some peace of mind in Carolina away from spotlight/hate get got in DC

Carter and Richie on ice for all 4 Chi goals tonight. Carts has cooled off with 1 goal in his last ten, AND adding 1 assist in his last 16.

Yeah, it was inevitable for his 24% shooting to start dropping down to his normal 12ish%

So much unnecessary hate for Alexander Semin. The guy averages more goals and points per 82 than Corey Perry, and he also plays better defense, yet many people here who were willing to blow ~$8M on Perry for 8 years are now criticizing the $7M per year for 5 year deal given to Semin. I don't get it at all.

I think this just really goes to show that it is true that once you get a rep on HFboards as a lazy player, it just sticks indefinitely.

Good deal for the Canes.

I love seeing people call his defensive play terrible, because its really not. I would have given him a similar contract

His deal is much better than Perry's or Parise's monster contracts.

Penguins also get Doug Murray.
Apparently, they could not deal with Murray, Morrow and Morrow on the same team.

This proves that the Pens are thinking only about their todays and not two Morrows.

Thank you, I'll be here all week. Please tip your waiters and waitresses.

Are you talking about the fan? I was thinking he looked a skinnier Brett Beliema. Former Wisconsin football coach now at Arkansas.
