Considering about 10 or 12 guys have made up the bottom 6 since January, with no training camp, mind you, I think its pretty difficult for any squad to gain an identity considering those factors.

Its not going to stop management from continuing to throw **** against the wall and hoping it sticks. And it satisfies a lot of fans thirst for blood when getting rid of guys, so theres that.

Doesnt help in any way, but theres that.

You know its getting bad when there is clamoring for a player like Jussi Jokinen.

Have we collectively learned nothing? Lets try to bring Zherdev and Lisin back. Maybe we can deal for Olli Jokinen too.

A third line of Lisin-Jokinen-Zherdev would be ideal. Bring on the dangles.

This isn't Monopoly. Obtaining more assets isn't ANY part of the equation, much less a prime directive (of which there can only be one, btw... Thus the word prime). The prime directive would be to build a winning hockey team. Roster building, which includes obtaining as much of a balance as possible between left and right D (no matter which way they shoot), is far far more important than obtaining more assets.
I respect your opinion but disagree.
Let's side step the semantics. We need more assets, more guys who can play and succeed at NHL level. THAT is overriding consideration. After that, we focus on important things like balance, chemistry etc.

If you do not have the horses to begin with, the roster you build won't matter.

Hello.. i am not that good on waiver rules etc. but why do you mean "if worser team gets him before rangers have the oppurtunity to get him"

If a guy is waived does the last team starts if they want him or not? then team 29, 28 ...... etc?

Exactly right. Teams at the bottom of the standings get priority.

i dont think hes taken a step back.. the guy plays 25+ min per night.. blocks an amazing number of shots and plays against top lines.. hes battling through injuries and burned out prob a little.. also when staal is out i think it affects him..

we struggled the beginning of the season with staal out.. when he came back at the winter classic the team was solid the next few months..

also mcd is fine.. hes still very young and this is his only 2yr on the squad if you count his mid season call up and then last year.. he deserves a pass especially how well hes played for us..

we're just nit picking now.. these guys would be top pairs on any team in the league.. we should be drooling over having them, most teams would give a lot to get them.. ask montreal

Powe
Halpern
Pyatt
Boyle
Miller

all been mainstays on the bottom 6 for quite some time, yet have produced nothing.

Should we leave them together to pray they get chemistry or start trying new things. the only revolving door has been that last spot (sans an injury to miller) that has allowed Haley, Asham, etc to get new chances.

I am not seeing any sort of negative around this. The Rangers have numerous players in their bottom-6 who have not produced. Pyatt. Boyle. Jokinen plays LW. A position of weakness on this team. He is great in the shoot-out and has almost consistently put up 40-50 points for years. He is a skilled speedster but isn't that what this team needs more of?

That's definitely the condition, I remember from when the trade went down. Don't remember who said it, though.

Everyone is clamoring over Jokinen, but honestly, I'm way more interested in Kaspers Daugavins, who was waived as well.

He's a solid energy guy with decent hands. Rangers could use a sparkplug like that on the 4th line. He's an upgrade on Powe, IMO.

bingo! this is why.. we have to build complementary guys/bottom 6 and move forward from this trade deadline/offseason into next season..getting guys now will help us now and mainly into next couple of seasons..

get an ott (big if, if available) clowe or torres type player instead of pyatt the michelin man.. big slow and soft.. or call up somone with speed, physical and size, that has raw skills and talent that we can develop into that role..

miller is our 3c and boyle is our 4c.. hes perfect for that role.. we just need 3 wingers.. asham hasnt been to bad when actually healthy.. you think haley has potential to become a prust kind of guy with developing?

This. Would rather get the younger guy for the bottom 6. Has some speed too. Enough with the bottom 6 being a retirement home.

The hope is that he can turn into a Powe. The Rangers have enough 4th liners. They need someone who can create a bit of offense and slot up and down the line-up. Jokinen is a LW/C with experience and quite a bit of skill. Sounds like a fit considering this team is playing Boyle at 3c and lacks a top-6 LWer outside of Hagelin.

I would welcome a Torres for Pyatt deal right now.
Waive Newbury and send him down
Maybe take a flyer on Jokinen (will he make it to us???) and if he does not work out - then deal him in the offseason (he can most likely be moved)
Staal returns healthy... bye bye Gilroy...that would be about it then...

You guys kill me (not in a bad way). I'm not one for attention, and when stuff like this comes up I feel embarrassed more than anything. At the same time I don't wanna look like a d*ck. I appreciated it, but as most would say, "It's our job".. But again thanks, and sorry for straying off topic...

I'd rather spend $3M next season on Hagelin and Stepan than allocate cap space for a guy like Jokinen.

We just added a skilled LW for the bottom six when we re-signed Zuccarello. No sense in bringing in another one who's older and more expensive.

Ugh. Want nothing to do with Jokinen.
Why would you want nothing to do with a player that has put up solid numbers in the past, can play both sides of the puck, is one of the better shootout players in the league, and could potentially cost no assets?

I asked to trade for Jokinen for spare parts during the first month of the season and got flamed. How the tide has turned

NYR Draft picks in 2013
  • 2nd round NYR
  • 3rd round Florida (for W. Wolski 2012)
  • 3rd round Nashville (for NYR 3rd round pick 2012)
  • 3rd round NYR
  • 3rd round Columbus (in Nash trade 2012, conditional - that NYR do not go to SC finals in 2013)
  • 4th round NYR
  • 6th round NYR
  • NO 1st rounder (traded to Columbus for Rick Nash... 2012)
  • NO 5th rounder (traded to Nashville for Nashville 5th 2012 - chose Tomas Spelling at #142)
  • NO 7th rounder (traded to Minnesota along with Eric "Crusher" Christensen for Casey Wellman 2012)
NYR Draft picks in 2014
  • 1st round NYR
  • 2nd round NYR
  • 3rd round NYR
  • 4th round NYR
  • 5th round Florida (for Casey Wellman)
  • 5th round NYR
  • 6th round NYR
  • Eventually NO 7th rounder (conditionally traded to San Jose along with Tommy "horror-movie" Grant for Brandon Mashinter 2013 - condition being if he resigns with NYR then San Jose gets the pick)
Another terrific job.
Don't forget Randy McNaught. Unfortunately, he may be more candidate for the Tysen Dowzak award then our 4th line, which is pity, a motivated guy 6'4" big, moves well enough, gets injured, apparently can't skate well enough.

No team wanted to give ANY spare parts to Carolina for Jokinen.

When are we putting Stepan on waivers?

You were flamed because you suggested he could take Stepan's spot. How the tides have turned.

By the way, Jokinen has scored 4 shootout goals on his last 16 attempts. Not anything great. We already have Nash and Zuccs who are near locks to score in the shootout, and Callahan/Gaborik are solid options as well. I'd rather not acquire players for their shootout skills, anyway, there are no shootouts in the playoffs.
