I think could build a package with Couturier as the centerpiece for Yandle or for Myers.

If the Flyers, draft, say MacKinnon -- a valuable center should get moved for a stud defenseman. You have your future in the middle set for an 8 year span and the defense needs an upgrade. At some point it will be insane to pay 4 centers (G, Schenn, Couts, an MacK -- hypothetically) the type of money they'll deserve.

Once the Flyers zero in on their draft spot, expect the rumor mill to go crazy about moving someone. If they're in the top 5-- they can draft D or flip an NHLer or pick for an established D and shortcut development years. It's gonna be nuts.

I would try to do package deal to get Ryan. Couturier+Meszarov for Ryan+pick/defensive prospect. If not, just do Couts+Mezza for Ryan.
Mezz is there only for get cheaper our third pair defensive.
Try to trade Fedotenko and Talbot for picks.
Trade or byuout Briere. If trade, try only picks or prospects.
Offseason byuout Pronger.
Re-assign Zolnierczyk and Rinaldo.
Now we have 15 ****ing million in capspace with "full roster". If we want we can save like 5million for G extension and another 5million for Schenn. Now we have 5 millions for next two season to acquire defender. Ups i forget Timonen retires same season when we are going to do G and Schenn extensions, so we have 11million capspace for defender.

FORWARDS
Bobby Ryan ($5.100m) / Claude Giroux ($3.750m) / Jakub Voracek ($4.250m)
Scott Hartnell ($4.750m) / Brayden Schenn ($3.110m) / Wayne Simmonds ($3.975m)

From ufa market you can always find bottom3 players and bottompair defenders. But we can always Holmgren the RFA market and get some youth there.

What's this fixation with Ryan by the Flyers? I bet it's Clarke meddling like he did with his assanine Shelley suggestion. I mean Ryan is a good player but for Couts? We didn't offer him up for Weber, Yandle or Nash supposedly.. yet now he is becoming a sacrificial lamb b/c he's not Mats Sundin at age 20 yet! I mean we do need scoring at center and Couts is going to take some time and it's not clear how much of a scorer Schenn will be...but Couts is a Selke type player. He just needs time. If we are going to give him up it better be in some manner that nets us a stud D man. Flyers better not screw this one up if in fact he becomes trade bait at the draft depending on what position we draft at...

Agreed. I am not worried about this rumor. The deadline time is when everybody, including Dreger, throw junk out there. Bob Mckenzie is the only one I can think of that hasn't been blatantly wrong with rumor mongering.

Flyers cant buy out Pronger. So none of this works. I would of thought that everyone would of understood that by now.

You can't buyout Pronger.

As to the other points, I'm not sure. Where do you see spending that money? There aren't many defenseman available better than Mezsaros (when healthy--granted, that's rare lately).

If I'm the Flyers, no one other than Briere or Fedotenko gets moved before the deadline. Buy-out Briere if he doesn't get traded.

Also, I'm not certain you can find a better goalie UFA--though certainly you could find a cheaper one. You can look to acquire a young backup via trade, but I'm not sure that makes the team better in the short-term (what evidence is there that Bishop is any better than Bryzgalov?).

I cam here to mention that. I absolutely have interest. I have trouble thinking he couldn't fit in the lineup over Harry Z. He also is great in shootouts, no?

He is very good at faceoffs. I am surprised no one would trade a late round pick for him. Guess his play has really fallen off.

Jokinen has looked like complete ******* this season - but if we're moving Talbot / Fedotenko. I'm down.

Jussi Jokinen has looked awful, if he didn't have that extra year left @ 3m I would say he's worth a look but that's a big risk getting stuck w/ him for next year.

I thought that if you pick someone up on waivers you pay half? Or is that whole thing out the window?

exactly. The Flyers should not be looking to add salary. Even if it means not giving up an asset.

That's the only thing I miss about re-entry waivers. Is paying half of what the guy is worth. Other than that, it can burn in hell.

Which is why they got rid of it, guys end up stuck in the AHL cause teams can't risk paying a guy half his salary to play somewhere else.

I think now more than ever we need someone who can win faceoffs. If Giroux, with his ability to win draws, was placed into a more purely offensive role instead of constantly taking D zone draws it would solve a lot of our scoring problems. He'd be a consistent 90 point player if he was treated like Henrik Sedin.

I was talking to prongo earlier on twitter

If we can't get jones, trade down with someone like CBJ to get 2 1sts from them so we can pick up nurse/zadorov/pulock and someone like Mantha/Gauthier/Zykov/Morrissey

Bernier / Read has been discussed before as a framework, here and on the Trade Forum.

But the Flyers won't be moving either Schenn.

First instinct is not to do this. The Flyers aren't a team that lacks overall talent. It needs a few pieces in particualr spots, to be sure, but I'll take the $20 over two $10s here.

That said, if they are confident that someone like Pulock projects well on the NHL level and will be there at say 12 (CBJ), and we are sitting at #6 with Jones, MacKinnon, Drouin, Barkov, and Nurse off the board, I guess it would be worth exploring.

At that point, though, why not flip the pick to say PHX for Gormley--a better and more developed D prospect? I'd be fine if they traded up from the 2nd round, but I don't love the idea of trading back from the top 5-6.
