Mantha has some pretty bad character and work ethic issues, supposedly. Doubt we go for him.

RR is the guy I want if we're not in the top 6.

Yeah I don't think they can get into the top five picks but I'd say it's pretty vital to grab that 6-8 spot to get one of those centers. The defense in Dallas is bad but has the parts to be better in a few years. Faska's no sure thing and there's basically nothing behind him as far as offensive centers. If I could make it happen that'd be my priority at the draft and if I have to move either a pick or a prospect, depending on the prospect, to make it happen so be it.

Hell Robidas and the 9th for 6th overall would be an easy deal to pull the trigger on.

The team with the 6th overall pick isn't going to be in the position to want a 37 year old defenseman on the last year of his contract in order to drop down 2-4 spots.

I'm going to take issue with this. Shore deserves to be mentioned here and quite frankly you could make an argument for ranking him ahead of Faksa if the criteria is a future offensively oriented center.

I'll grant that that doesn't change the pressing need for better center prospect depth.

Faksa's had a hard year with injuries and mysterious illness for sure, but I think Ritchie has proven that we should give the guy a 2nd chance (Piqued I know you're not saying write him off).

Shore looks fantastic, and I hope to watch him quite a bit more next year. With Notre Dame in Hockey East, I think there's a better chance we'll get to see them since Notre Dame seems to be a popular team to get on Fox College Sports ... just like Minnesota. I think he's got great potential, but I'm not ready to put him ahead of Faksa.

How do we all rate the top centers?

1) Nathan MacKinnon
2) Aleksander Barkov
3) Sean Monahan
4) Elias Lindhom
5) Curtis Lazar

To me it seems the biggest debate would be between Monahan and Lindholm, right?

Could anyone see Gaglari pushing to make a splash on draft day to get into the top 5?

Not sure how the assets pan out but it would be an interesting way to shake up a fan base.

If he wants to do that, he should direct GM Joe to sell, sell, sell.

Dallas is definitely in a position they could get around 5 to 8 based on their remaining schedule.

yeah monahan vs lindholm seems like the biggest debate. I think Lindholm would probably fit what Dallas needs a little better. I don tknow if Lazar is actually generally considered 5th but whoever it is would be quite a dropoff from the other 4.

Definitely not writing him off or anything close to that. Also not saying that Shore is a better prospect than Faksa, he is not. Just saying if the question is purely offensive skills then Shore is comparable to Faksa and possibly slightly ahead.

Boiling it down to that one point ... you are probably right. Shore plays a high IQ game, and he's so fun to watch.

I think Faska is more of a 2/3 tweener. He's a big bodied center with questions about his offense and Shore is still not proven potential 1/2. Neither of whom can be called dynamic. I'm not sure Monahan can be called that either but Id wager all three of Barkov, Monahan, and Lindholm all have higher upsides than Faska and Shore and that we really have nothing like them in our prospect pool and that's why I'm hoping we can get one of them.

As for Gagliardi making a splash he doesn't seem like the type to meddle in hockey operations, though if he does I hope he's whispering in Joe's ear, sell, sell, sell.

I know some people will continue to be blindly stubborn about blaming or even giving credit to GM Joe Nieuwendyk for the drafts. Hopefully a few might change their mind.

From Heika chat:

Quote:
Q: Does GM Joe Nieuwendyk actively scout any games in the NHL, AHL, or amateur leagues (CHL, NCAA, etc)? Has he been to any games of interest recently?

A: Not really that much. He will go see the Texas Stars (I think he was in Houston Tuesday) and will watch other NHL games (he saw the Leafs when he was in Toronto at the GM meetings), but he is with the Stars on most days (even on the road). I think he wants to be with this team as much as possible and is trusting that the scouting staff will get the other information he needs.

We'll see I guess:

Wow, interesting.

I figured it would be a two-horse race between MacKinnon and Jones.

Wonder whose stock will plummet between now and the draft. There's always a few who end up falling way below even Bobby Mac's rankings.

If Joe can somehow snag us a second 1st round pick, I'd say we're in good shape this year.

I've been paying attention to him and his talk lately as well. He's definitely a talent worthy of #1.

it looks like there are 4 or 5 guys in this draft who would be in the mix for first overall in any given season.

all the more reason to stock pile to trade up or go the old fashion route of losing our way to a top 5 pick!

Jones, MacKinnon, Barkov, Drouin, and now Nichushkin have all had talks of being #1.

Looks like the Big 6 is now 7.
