The Lightning organization is a complete mess. They give Boucher a bunch of geek defensemen and horrible goalies then fire him when it doesn't work out.

Like the Caps, they've set themselves back even farther now

Yzerman knew he needed new defensemen so what does he do? He goes and signs offensive defensemen. Like that horrible Matt Carle contract, and Sami Salo. Their defense just isn't very good at playing defense. Maybe we can give them Tallinder? Or better yet Volchenkov?

It's been that way for a while though. The sum is greater than each individual player, and that's why the Devils are so successful despite not having an all-star on defense. I like the defense by committee system the Devils have, they don't need to splurge on elite caliber defense to still be successful.

The D that took this team to the finals last season is all of a sudden bad. Okay.

We should claim Jokinen if you simple fact that we need help in the shootout, let alone he would be a good addition to our top 9 forwards

Provided he makes it to us. I highly doubt he would. But if he does, he certainly makes Zubrus... extendable.

I don't even want to think about what would happened if Brodeur wasn't back yet.

Our defense is pathetic? We're the best team in the East at preventing shots.

No matter how well the Devils' defense performs, people will crap on them because they don't measure up to the precedent set by Stevens and Niedermayer.

Agreed. Free Fayne should be a movement again. Juggling 8 defencemen has not really worked all that well for us. I think our record would be about the same with just 7.

Urbom loves to pinch and make aggressive moves in the offensive zone. He doesn't have the best shot, and he needs to clean up his defence to the outside, just like Larsson.

I think he's one of our more valuable and yet expendable prospects. I'd be happy to see him stick with the team, and I'd be equally fine with him going in a package to bring in a scoring forward.

I'm going to believe Bob McKenzie more than you pal.

Not saying TB's record wasn't factor in GB's dismissal - being down 4-0 early in last 2 GP - but decision had more to do with "culture."

Bob McKenzie‏@TSNBobMcKenzie 24 Mar
Key vet TB players were shutting down/tuning out. Yzerman much rather would've liked to assess at season's end, but problem was snowballing.

Everyone I've spoken to this morning says Tampa situation cries out for an experienced hand. New guy has to get immediate buy-in from vets.

But please keep speaking in absolutes.

This 8 defensemen thing has been a joke from the start.

I'd much rather have Urbom, or Gelinas in the lineup for injuries. It's a lot better than Pesonen, Anderson, or Sestito when there are forward injuries. A top defensemen is not what we lost this offseason. A top forward is what we lost, and another who at least was a top forward on our team last year. (WTF was that Darche thing about anyway?)

Sure, we're missing a bonafide puck-moving #1 but our defensive group is above average. The real problem with this team is that Kovalchuk never got the centerman he deserves, albeit it would be a difficult task to acquire one. Zajac's style doesn't mesh with Kovy. I don't think he has the offensive hockey IQ or raw talent to play with Kovalchuk.

Devils better claim Jokinen if he falls to us, another low risk move that can only help at this point!

Anyone know where we are in the waiver line? Lou's senile if he gets to us and we don't claim him. Unless he has something better up his sleeve like sometime this week.

Well after looking at the standings we probably have a zero percent chance of snagging him but man he'd be a good enough fit.

I don't see why not considering all the injuries, but ya I doubt he falls that far.

I do agree that Zajac just isn't the center for Kovy. Not really a knock against either player they just don't mesh very well it seems.

Doesn't really matter though as people put to much stock in "what line" someone plays on. Playing on the 3rd line on this team isn't the same as other teams. We like to balance it out and when healthy it is a sound thing to do. Just missing so many forwards right now it makes my head spin.

Curious to see if Lou has one more move up his sleeve, but that is a decent waiver pick up if he doesn't.

Jokinen has another year left at $3 million. Don't they eat some of his cap hit if another team takes him though? What are the rules there?

Jokinen is actually a pretty good player, I'd be surprised if he falls to the devils.

I think it goes by reverse points per game, which isn't much different but some teams would be swapped.

Well i remember with Rolololston once he went on Re-Entry wiavers, we would have been responsible for 2.5 of his 5M caphit but again this was re-entry waivers...
