i actually like kreider with richards. they both work pretty well together and we could use kreider's scoring and he finally has someone to set him up

Endemic on this board.

Boyle has not been good this year, but this was a solid effort tonight.

BTW, to add to the Boyle conversation.

Kreider's goal marked the fourth time this season that Boyle was on the ice for a New York Rangers goal.

Also, what's funny about that Kreider goal. Most, if not all, teams in the NHL have at least a goal like that per game. Where the skill comes to fruition and it's bang-bang-bang-back of the net. Quick decisions and crisp passing. Goals like that for the Rangers are like spotting a unicorn

Quick stick tap to Boyle on that goal though. Odd man rush for the Rangers and he drove to the net like any guy ahead of the pack on an odd man rush should do. Heads up play by Boyler there.

(I am Boyle hater numero uno).

Carl Hagelin...unsung hero.

This kid always finds a way to play himself onto our best lines. How could you not love him?

Here's why, we are up 3 - 0 and he takes a senseless penalty that put the Flyers back in the game. Then they get a flukey one and if not for the cluelessness of the refs he would have taken a 4 minute penalty for high sticking Simmonds at 3 - 2.

His line scored a goal tonight because he had nothing to do with the puck. Richards to Kreider to DZ, back to Kreider; goal. No Boyle in the sequence. Early in the game CK set him up in the circle and he fanned. He played average otherwise. That's why. He cannot be playing on the 3rd line anymore.

Boyle opened the lane by driving to the net.

I hate Boyle, but blind hate is unnecessary and unbecoming.

His stupid penalty kept the Flyers in a game they were dead in. If he is not going to score, he cannot take ill timed penalties that are not stopping a scoring chance. Sorry, he sucks and will be easily replaced when that time comes.

You're taking the high road on Boyle? Listen he skated in front of the net, but the only reason that play became a goal is because he didn't touch the puck. And since that is true he is a weakness on this team. 4th liner.

Honestly the penalty call on Boyle was more of a weak call/embellishment than it was a senseless play by him. If every player fell down every time they were brushed by the arm of a guy who is trying to get around him, we would be watching soccer. And on the high stick, it was on the follow through on a dump in and Simmons was hunched over. If anything it would've been an unfortunate accident of a penalty.

Also, as pointed out just above you, Boyle drove to the net on the goal. What else could you ask of him in that sequence? He did his job without the puck.

Do you also blame Hagelin for his boneheaded turnover that also lead to that 1st Flyers goal?

Or how about Gaborik's bonehead play that lead directly to their second goal (flukey). He stupidly touched the puck that was called as an intentional offside and the faceoff that was in our zone,

mistakes happen, to everyone.

It's not the mistakes you make, it's your overall value to the team.

Hagelin? Catalyst on our best line of the year and was a bigger factor on that line than Stepan in the first stretch of the season. Hagelin with 8 goals(?) and was the best player for a good 7 game stretch. He impacts the game, Boyle doesn;t.

I don't care if Gaborik fumbles defensive plays and then indirectly leads to a goal against. He's suppose to be a 40 goal scorer and even though he's not producing right now, being defensive unsound on plays isn't what I'd criticize Gaborik for.

Boyle adds nothing offensively when he's suppose to add offense to our bottom 6. At the very least, he needs to be defensively sound and win faceoffs. Unlucky penalty but when there's not much to counter it in terms of his play as of late.... it just is what it is.

Boyle is 7th in the entire NHL in FO %, but sure that doesn't matter at all.

Listen, I'm not even a fan of Boyle, he pisses me off with regularity, but to call him out after the game this team just played is piling on. People get on Torts because Boyle is one of his "boys", well, in my mind you're (not you specifically) just as guilty of blindly disliking the guy if you can't point out his value.

The Rangers won a road game by 3 goals against another desperate team. No one should be saying anything bad tonight.

Was that the New York Rangers??

Great, huge win. It's nice to finally get a few goals.

I don't know if anyone mentioned it or not, but that 2nd Flyers goal (which could have lead to a disaster) was completely Gaboriks fault. The only reason the face off was in the Rangers zone was because of a deliberate offsides that easily could have been avoided. Gaborik lazily let the puck hit him when he knew damn well it was offsides. He tried to play it off like he didn't know but the ref called and it was the right call.

It's these little things, the attention to detail that he blatantly dismissed in this case that could have costed the Rangers a point or two on the road. To me that's absolutely inexcusable and it's the type of lazy play from him that drives me up a wall. That's not a lack of defensive play, it's unfocused, selfish, ******** play that has nothing to do with the type of player he is. It's not like he's out there scoring like Stamkos every night.

Other than that great efforts all around and finally this team scores some goals. The flyers completely gave up after Nash's second, but it's nice for a change to not have to play catch up or shutdown hockey with a goal lead

There's value to Boyle but long term, I'd very much rather find someone who can impact the game. I rarely blindly hate on someone aside from a in-game criticism that may be uncalled for. A 3C has the ability and potential to break games. Boyle hasn't broken anything this year, even with his GWG in WSH.

Defensively, Boyle is useful as far not having a defensively reliable penalty killer on the bottom six who can take faceoffs. That spot can be better filled by many great 3Cs, including a few up and comers in our organization.

While I'm not actively promoting the trading of Boyle, sooner or later (whether we want to favor change to better our team in hopes of making the playoffs/deep run), we will have 2 or 3 much better options for 3C.

While a potential replacement 3C will not be as good in the FO circle and defensively/be able to kill penalties actively, they won't suck in those respects either especially under Tortorella if he's around for the new 3Cs. Furthermore, 3Cs have such a huge impact on a game, it can change the complexion of teams. Prust and Feds, Mitchell and co. made Boyle a great player in his role and we had a dominant 4 line team that found offense and ways to win.

What we lack is a 3rd line. We have a top two line now (short of Torts finding the right lines) but we traded away our 3rd and 4th line dominance. Having that said, this is mostly why Boyle needs to improve or he'll be pushed out sooner or later.

I suppose it's not what he is (although some nights that's the entire issue), it's more what he isn't. He's turning out to be a "time killer" this season. Not even grinding in the offensive zone to gain momentum, just a time killer which can be a good thing but thanks to our lack of offense and leads this season, what he isn't is becoming apparent. He is hated on too much but he's managing to find the wrong end of evaluations lately. Richards receives the occasional approval from HFNYR when he does something good or even just a good period and Richards is public enemy 1 right now. So Boyle isn't completely undeserving but it's definitely a broken record.

Shout out to that final Powerplay unit. I thought it was cool of Torts to send them out there to give em a chance (and it was a nice slap in the face to Philly)
