If couts is traded, it has to be for a sub 23 year old defender.
Can't we just draft a Dman? Trading Couts could be one of the worst ideas coming out of this season.

How about drafting one at the top of the first round. Trading draft picks. Trade guys like Read and Hartnell.

Read can get you a guy like Rundblad, not a no. 1.

Hartnell isn't likely to be moved, but could also only bring back future prospects--not a young NHL defenseman

We might be in a position to draft Jones (or Nurse), but neither figure to be fully developed for, what, 4+ years?

Do we think this fan base / organization has that kind of patience?

Patience is not a word in our dictionary.

People around here are the epitome of "what have you done for me lately"

I mean, look at the way people want to crucify Laviolette. He finishes pretty highly with this team 3 years in a row and people want him gone 30 games into a shortened season. I'm not saying he doesn't need to go, but it's a real short leash.

The Flyers won't being getting a #1 defensemen even for Couturier but I think they could upgrade with a few smart trades without trading him. I would try Talbot for Adam Clendening from Chicago. The Blackhawks are probably going all in this year. I would also see if Coburn + Read could get Bouwmeester. Maybe add a 2014 2nd rd pick if need be or another midlevel prospect. Get rid of Meszaros and make a play for Smid or Hainsey in the offseason with his old salary.

Bouwmeester - Smid
Timmonen-Schenn
Grossman-Clendening

It's not great but its better than this year.

Flyers were scouting Hawks/Flames tonight

Who do you think your scouts were there to watch on either team?

Talbot does nothing to upgrade the Hawks bottom 6 center spots

Kruger/Shaw are playing just as well as him while sucking at faceoffs like him

Not giving up quality prospect for him

I thought the Hawks were looking for a 4th line center?

Scouting Kane to imagine what could have been had we got the #1 overall in 2007.

No to bouwmeester. He is not going to put this team back into contention especially at the expense of coburn and read

Yes a faceoff ace/PK guy who can either slot into #3/4 C spot

Offensively on year
Kruger 3 goals + 7 assists for +4 while playing 2:33 SH TOI
Shaw 7 goals + 4 assists for +4
Talbot 4 goals + 5 assists

Shaw is 44.2% at dot and Kruger is 45.6% but Talbot is barely much of an improvement at 47.8%

Talbot offers PK guy but he sucks at faceoffs which is major weakness for Hawks at C already so doubt they bring in another poor faceoff guy especially not at cost of Clendening

Ray Emery.

Holmgren has brought back Boucher (unsuccessfully). He brought back Leighton (unsuccessfully). It's only rational that we bring back the last goal-tending piece from our run to the cup finals... RAY EMERY.

6 years / 36M in the offseason should get it done.

This is actually not impossible.

Emery is a UFA after year and will be too costly for Hawks to re-sign

I am not the biggest Bouwmeester fan either but the guy is a legitimate 25 minute a game 1st pair defensemen. Coburn + Read is cheap for that kind of player. I would rather that than Couturier plus for "super Carle" Keith Yandle.

Isn't Bouwmeester more "super Carle" than Yandle?

How about just go with BPA with the 1st and then just pick a defenseman every later round. Shouldn't atleast one 'em stick when enough crap is thrown at the wall?

Bouwmeester takes up time and space rather nondescriptly. He doesnt really hit. He doesnt score alot. He does not make any huge gaffs. I don't know how to describe that. Maybe super Paul Martin, circa New Jesery years not Pittsburgh or maybe Dan Girardi. Steady and unspectacular. The issue with Bouwmeester is that he was hyped to be great and paid as such.

Yandle isn't great in his own end, makes poor reads, and turns the puck over and that is in Tippets conservative defensive system. I would be scared to watch him in Lavy's pinchfest system. Don't get me wrong, I think Yanlde would be a great add, if the fire Laviolette, but I don't like the price. Maloney is just too tough to negotiate with because all that he has to due is keep budget. The Coyotes could finish last every year and unless they win the lottery, nobody would notice especially in Phoenix. I Bouwmeester would be cheaper and after watching the junk this year, steady and unspecectacular is fine by me.

How about we pick a defenseman with the 1st, and a forward every round after that? One of them is bound to pan out right?
