I'd rather have kept Morales. Mostly because I have a Morales jersey. But I figured that Dipoto and Sosh want to see how Trumbo and Bourjos works out this season. Morales would have been about the same risk as those guys, except for one certainty we know he's going to be bad at running the bases. I just hope Trumbo stops swinging at garbage, then this will be worth it.

As for Vargas, he's no Greinke, but he's better than Richards or Williams.

Trading Morales ensures an outfield of Trout-Bourjos-Hamilton. All three are actually CF's. That means better defense in the outfield. Trumbo will be an everyday player as he will be the DH, but will be able to cover RF, LF, and 1B. Morales could only play DH and 1B. The Angels also have Conger on the roster, he's a switch hitting power bat except he plays catcher.

Vargas is a whole lot better than Richards and Williams. In fact, Vargas pitches extremely well in Anaheim. Based upon ERA alone, Vargas is ranked right behind CJ Wilson. This is a good move as it solidifies five starting pitching rotations as opposed to last year were we tried out Williams and Richards to no avail.

Been a few months. Spring training games started today. The Angels played a split squad against the Cubs and the Giants. Lost both games.

Sosh was pissed about starting off spring training with a split squad too. Hammerin' Hank better start being consistent or it is ahh-dios for him. Wait... do we even have prospect catcher better than Hank?

In terms of baseball these last couple weeks have been a lifetime. The WBC seems like it was months ago.

Finally even though Wells might have a sort of comeback year.

Angels pays 28-29M and Yankees the rest of that 45M contract.

Very happy about this, amazed the Yanks will be paying $6.5 mil a year for Vdubs. Vernon seems like a good locker room guy and all, but man he's sucked in Anaheim. He's the king of inconsequential solo HRs and striking out with men on base. Can't remember how many times we've seen him swing at breaking balls 4 feet off the plate. Good luck in New York Vernon.

He just doesn't fit on the team. I'm just happy that we got a GM a little over a year ago that finally decided to cut the fat. Imagine if Reagins were still the GM. We'd probably still be dealing with Abreu and Wells.

watched the ST game vs. the ranger's on MLB channel...that inning where they hit like 4 jacks was unreal....i think trout was hitting lead off then it went trumbo,puljos,hamilton....hope the pitching staff gets it going early...reminds me of when they had GA,edmonds, salmon, fielder

the starting pitching looks pretty mediocre, unless CJ Wilson is alot better than he was in the 2nd half of last season

I was all excited about this season, until i realized what this starting pitching staff was.

Depending on how are starters fair, we are more than likely having to make a move for another top starter before the season is too old.

I dont see this rotation being great for the playoffs... a 7 game series...

We are going to need some pitchers to step up, but i guess there is no rush. There is enough hitting to keep this team above .500.l for the first month while the rotation takes form.

Yeah, I'm thinking about it right now, and good Lord, the pitching is absolutely putrid. With the way Scioscia managed last year, I'm expecting us to miss the playoffs again I hate to say it.

Blanton, Hanson, Vargas aren't good enough. Hanson will be injured the whole season probably. Williams and Richards suck so much it's pathetic. The offense should be fun, but jfc this pitching is going to be disgraceful

I guess Yankees only pays 12-14M but that's saving too and maybe a prospect going to Halos too.

The prospects are so low level that it would have been better to get a bag of baseballs and a fungo.

Ummm... I'm not sure I understand the comment that the Yankees only pay $12 - 14mm and low level prospects. The previous trade options were any trade with Wells, we would have to pay almost $42 million per year for the next two years and the other team would only pay Wells $1 million.

For the Yankess to actually pay $12 - 14 mm truly saves this organization a bountiful amount of money, even if there are no prospects coming our way. If the other team were to only pay $1 mm, then there's no point in trading Wells away as we're paying him to play for another team. So getting $12-14 mm for the next two years is much, much better than getting $1 mim for the next two years for Wells.

Our GM really worked over NY's GM because NY needed hitters due to a rash of injuries and Wells was hitting well in spring training. Previous this trade, no one wanted Wells and his albatross contract unless the Angels would pay for about %95 of his salary.

Acquiring two low level prospects was simply icing on the cake! Heck, that was a steal considering we have been losing draft picks as well as trading away our own prospects.

Now, the backup will be OF Calhoun, who will be paid the rookie salary.
