I wouldn't put too much stock into that. He would be oming here as a piece to the puzzle not to be a leader.

- Briere for a 1st
- Fedotenko for a 3rd or 4th
- Gervais for a bag o' pucks (or demote)
- do not re-sign any UFA except Gagne
- Bryzgalov (amnesty)

+ re-sign Simon Gagne (~$3mil)
+ sign Jaromir Jagr (~$4mil)
+ sign Ray Emery (~$1.5mil)
+ trade picks+ (not our own 1st rounder) for Jon Bernier
+ pray for Seth Jones

FORWARDS

CAPGEEK.COM TOTALS (follow @capgeek on Twitter)
(these totals are compiled with the bonus cushion)
SALARY CAP: $64,300,000; CAP PAYROLL: $60,648,000; BONUSES: $3,012,500
CAP SPACE (23-man roster): $6,664,500

At the end of the day, the draft will determine where we go as a franchise. Jones will give us that elite blue-chip defense prospect but somebody like Drouin or the other top forwards gives us more flexibility to move another forward to try and get a defender. I really think we should try to move assets at the deadline then move those assets in the offseason for a young, talented goaltender. We could just go with Bryz and then if he still sucks amnesty him in 2014 instead and get a goaltender then... but really we need a retool starting from the net out, and get a young goalie while our core is still so young. We would have one player on our roster who would be making over $5mil and his contract expires at the end of the 2013-14 season anyway.

Might as well resurrect this thread...

Jack de la Hoya's (Updated) Offseason plan:

- Flip Fedotenko for the best available draft pick between now and the trade deadline.
- If healthy and willing to waive his NMC, shop Briere.

- Re-sign Gagne @ $2.5 for 2 years
- Re-sign RFAs Rinaldo and Harry Z.
- draft BPA (projected 4th overall = A. Barkov)

- Buyout Briere (if not previously traded)
- Trade Couturier + Mezsaros for Myers + L. Adam
- Trade 2014 2nd + conditional pick for B. Bishop (RFA) [or send an offer sheet]

Quote:
Scott Hartnell ($4.750m) / Claude Giroux ($3.750m) / Jakub Voracek ($4.250m)
Simon Gagne ($2.500m) / Brayden Schenn ($3.110m) / Wayne Simmonds ($3.975m)
Maxime Talbot ($1.750m) / Alexander Barkov ($1.700m) / Matt Read ($0.900m)
Tye McGinn ($0.775m) / Scott Laughton ($1.138m) / Zac Rinaldo ($0.750m)
Luke Adam ($0.875m) /

DEFENSEMEN
Kimmo Timonen ($6.000m) / Luke Schenn ($3.600m)
Braydon Coburn ($4.500m) / Tyler Myers ($5.500m)
Nicklas Grossmann ($3.500m) / Erik Gustafsson ($0.851m)
Bruno Gervais ($0.825m) /
Chris Pronger ($4.936m) /

GOALTENDERS
Ilya Bryzgalov ($5.667m)
Ben Bishop ($1.500m)
------
CAPGEEK.COM TOTALS (follow @capgeek on Twitter)
(these totals are compiled with the bonus cushion)
SALARY CAP: $64,300,000; CAP PAYROLL: $64,400,381; BONUSES: $2,562,500
CAP SPACE (23-man roster): $2,462,119
2013-2014:
- Roll something like this line-up for 40 games and reevaluate. At that point, if we're in serious contention, explore prospects / picks for rentals ($2.4 million in cap space + Prongers LTIR)
- At the end of the season, make a decision re: Bryzgalov v. Bishop
- If Bryzgalov is retained, use Timonen's money to resign Giroux, etc.

EDIT: This set-up would give Myers the opportunty to focus on rediscovering the offensive game he showed in his rookie year, while also freeing Coburn from puck-moving responsibilities. It would also give us a big-time shot on the PP, and retained the benefits of having 2 second lines. Talbot and Read seem like good partners for Barkov on this two-way 3rd line (though I could see Gagne dropping depending on other moves). Laughton gets accustomed to the NHL game in a similar role to what Couturier had last year, though there may still be a log-jam at center long-term.

Assuming Timonen retires after next season, Coburn-Myers becomes the default top-pair. At that point, you sign a PMD to pair with Schenn, unless Gostisbehere is ready for the jump in 2014-2015.

What is up with people saying to trade Rusty for a 3rd? Does he really have that much value?

He can be valuable to anyone who needs a better PK and can put up some points here and there. If Murray, a guy who most Sharks did not want to play much at all this season, gets 2 2nds, I think Feds could pull a 3rd. Or even Morrow, who might be more over the hill than Feds (plus a 3rd), got Joe Morrow and a 5th.

My overhaul would be dramatic. I'd keep:

L. Schenn
Timonen
Grossmann

Giroux
Voracek
B. Schenn
Talbot
Couturier
Gagne

That's it. 9 players off an entire roster. Lets summon the spirit of 2007/08 and rebuild in one year. I've even listen to offers for B Schenn and Couturier.

Fire Holmgren and Lavy. Hire Hextall and let him bring in his own coach

Of all the stuff in this thread, that's probably the development most likely to occur, either this offseason or next.

You Flyers fans were right and I'm sure you'd be happy to know that JVR has pulled his disappearing act. I can't believe it. When he's on, he's the best player on the ice, but when he's off, he offers absolutely nothing. Like halfway through the game last night, I wasn't sure if he was even playing. Carlyle sat him for most of the 3rd and all of overtime against Boston the other night too.
I suppose we were warned.

I love Simmonds heart and his ability to stand in the goalies face on the PP and give them fits, but he shouldn't be a top six winger for us, he just doesn't have the puck skills

Wayne Simmonds is a top 6 forward on pretty much any team in the league.

Yeah he's not a top line winger but he's most certainly a top 6 player.

He needs to switch to wearing shield before one of those pucks and sticks miss his mouth and nose and hit his eyes.

With all due respect, you're nuts if you seriously believe that.

Doesn't he have a NTC? Or is that when his extension kicks in?

here's my plan for next season:

1) re-acquire JVR, Lupul, J. Williams, Carter, Sbisa and Ray Emery.
2) lose in playoffss to Bruins
3) trade everyone and start over.
