We should have gotten Doug Murray. Pens have a GM with balls.

Giving up 2 2nd rounders for a #6 d-man isn't balls...it's strupidity.

For a team like the Pens, who want to give it a healthy go this year, I don't see any stupidity in this move.

I don't mind Habs fans saying how they wouldn't have paid 2 2nd for a guy like Murray, because quite frankly, I wouldn't have neither in the situation we're in. What I like a little less though, is people acting/talking as if Murray was a no-good scrub who doesn't belong in that league. He'll be a good one for Pittsburgh. People tend to overrate the impact of a 2nd round pick around here. Sure, they can turn out just fine, but in the end, if the guy you get helps you win a Stanley Cup, I'm sure it's worth it to give it away.

Not if you need that type of player. Habs have been looking for big tough Ds for ages.

And with our precious draft picks we'll have one in 5, 6 years tops.

Still being competent at playing defense is still, however, a requirement. People seem to forget this.

If Doug Murray plays well for the Pens, I wouldn't be against offering him a contract on July 1st. It will give us a better chance to evaluate him, anyway. The reports from SJ sure made him sound a little stale, past his best before, anyway, even though his previous reputation made him sound like a more ideal target. It sort of sounds like he's pretty immobile right now, and he doesn't really fight much... I'm not convinced we don't do better giving Tinordi time.

Murray would have to step up his game big time to have any impact on Pittsburgh winning anything. Morrow also but to a lesser extent. Both guys will be expected to play bigger roles in Pit than on weaker teams.

Problem is...if he plays well he probably gets 3-4 year offers as a UFA and we have Tinordi Beaulieu Ellis Pateryn Dietz Bennett Nygren who mostly should be NHL ready by 2014-2015.

Tinordi so far looks no further than a year from being an NHL regular.

If Diaz Subban Markov Emelin Gorges are all still here then he'll probably start next year AHL.

One that can play big minutes, not 17 a game. Tinordi will be that player within 2-3 years. Emelin brings most of those elements now.

I would not give much credence to a group of fans posting on a hockey board.

If you go to the Boston board, they are mad at Lucic, Horton, Krejci. Horton may be traded but there is no way in hell that the Bruins get rid of Lucic or Krecji. So you have to take homer posts with a grain of salt, especially since San Jose is a bubble playoff team and the fans are restless.

His specialty is blocking shots and is great on the PK (which we need help with). He's only had two fights this year and in the last one against Kyle Clifford, it was total domination.

But.......water under the bridge and a lost opportunity.

Not a heavyweight...but would you guys be interested in Raffi torres?? The coyotes are pretty much imploding at the moment and some Key players like YAndle, Morris, TOrres and Hanzal might become available. Torres hits like a truck and can drop the mits when he needs too.

Wouldn't mind him. Plays with an edge and can chip in offensively. Always liked a guy like Torres.

17 minutes of a punishing big D that we don't have, I'll would gladly take. Emelin can't take the place of a big D.

Same. He's also UFA. The only drawback with Torres is not that he plays with an edge, but that he plays on the edge, often falling over and puts his team into trouble...I could see that scaring some teams away. He's good depth to have though. Adds a little sandpaper, makes us a little more of a pain in the ass the to play against.

I'm fine with replacing Moen with Steve MacIntyre, can't be any worse. Moen couldn't beat Campbell FFS

Don't get your hopes up fellows. We'll be lucky to pick up another 5'9" defense man.
