like I said in another thread, if Bryz was a legit starting goalie, regardless of how bad the team in front is, he would still be putting up decent numbers. Compare his SA% (.898) to these goalies who are all on non-playoffs teams:
actually, we had our goaltender. You know, the guy that's almost single handedly putting a terrible Columbus team in the playoffs? But no, we traded him because our incompetent owner didn't have any patience.
Who should we get to replace Bryz? Does it really matter? You could pay someone the league minimum to give us what Bryz does for $5.5m
Personally, I'd go after Bishop in OTT. Hell, I'd rather sign Eriksson from the SEL and run with him than be stuck with Bryz for the next 6 years
We're not stuck with anything. We can buy him out after next year. But we can wait and see if under a system that promotes better team defense he improves.
You can facepalm all the **** you want. Hopefully you've saved a few for yourself. Why don't you assemble a defense that can help out the goalie before you buy somebody out. Maybe you can see how Bryz does with improved team defense before you look for other options. How does that sound to you?
its not simple enough to not blame one guy. its got to be one guys fault. btw did giroux not get interviewed last night? i feel like timonen has to deal with the fallout of most of this
I realize that, but if that pick is the main centerpiece to getting mike green in the summer I do that deal every day of the week.
Not sold on Mike Green at all. He hasn't been able to stay healthy a full season and his production has gone down drastically since that one season he scored 30 goals.
Hopefully Holmgren sits patiently and doesn't do anything stupid. There's no need to deal any of the Flyers own first round picks and there's no need to deal anyone with the last name Giroux, Voracek, Simmonds, Schenn, Couturier, Grossmann and Rinaldo. Everyone else should be on the table.
If Holmgren decides to go after a defenseman, his best bet is to wait until the off season. Right now, everyone is going to know that he's desperate for a defenseman and they're going to squeeze him for everything he has. He waits until the off season, that desperation isn't there. As well, he might have multiple first round picks to play with. With the cap coming down, those draft picks are going to be like gold to most GMs (especially to those GMs who are having cap space issues) and you can bet that Holmgren will get several calls about possibly giving up one of those picks for a viable defenseman worthy of a first. This is the time to sit tight, clear out salary and prepare for the off season rebuild.
philadelphia daily news reporter frank seravelli reports that the philadelphia flyers brass was recently spotted in minnesota. Gm paul holmgren and director of hockey operations chris pryor were spotted in the land of 10,000 lakes scouting not only the ncaa but the wild’s recent game against the san jose sharks. The sharks have already moved douglas murray and rumors persist that dan boyle could be moved, but seravelli believes the object of the flyers affection is six-foot-five defender brent burns.
According to the Sharks Forum they would want a massive deal and significant overpayment. Essentially they would like to gut our entire team for him. 1st + Schenn + Simmonds + Giroux...i dunno something insanely ridiculous. However, it may be just as insanely ridiculous for us to inquire about him. Would be nice but based off the response from there fans and the sparse info/sources in Frank's article...doesn't seem likely.
I like Burns. His cap hit is a bit much, but if the price isn't too high I would be interested. I don't think he is THE solution to the team's defense issues, but I think he would help. I would not want to part with Schenn or Couturier for him (or even Laughton).
